Fast effect timing
Fast effects are card activations and effects with a Spell Speed of 2 or higher, including monster Quick Effects, Quick-Play Spell Cards, and Trap Cards (which includes both activating Trap Cards, and activating the effects of things like Continuous Trap Cards).
Fast effects can be activated by either player – even during their opponent’s turn, as long as the conditions are appropriate. When both players want to activate fast effects at the same time, they are placed on a Chain.[1]
Example A:
Player A summons Elemental Hero Stratos. Stratos' Trigger effect activates, forming Chain Link 1.
Player B now has the opportunity to respond, before Player A is able to activate another effect (spell speed 2 or higher), e.g. Player B now responds with bottomless trap hole. Player B must now wait for player A to respond or pass before activating any more spell speed 2 or higher effects to the chain
If there are no more effects to be activated, the chain resolves normally.
