The following words are commonly used by players to describe certain game mechanics but aren't official terminology in Yu-Gi-Oh!.
- Pop - The act of destroying a card on the field
- Spin - The act of shuffling a card on the field into the deck
- Bounce - The act of returning a card from the field to the hand
- Nuke - The act of destroying/banishing all cards on one or both sides of the field
- Book of Moon - The act of flipping a monster to face-down defense position
- Swarm the field - The act of summoning many monsters in a turn
- Mill - The act of sending cards from the top of a player's deck to the graveyard
- Armades Effect - An effect that prevents the opponent from activating cards or effects until the end of the damage step when the monster attacks or is attacked
- Tag Out - The act of a monster removing itself from the field and replacing itself with a different monster or monsters.
- Floating - The act of a monster replacing itself upon being sent to the graveyard, usually by destruction.
- Plus - Increasing the number of cards on one's hand/field.
- Minus - Decreasing the number of cards on one's hand/field.
- Searching - The act of adding a card from the deck to the hand.
