Effect Ra is already out in Japan. Don't get too excited, the card sucks, I've seen it's lore in English. Effect Obelisk could beat it anyday. SpaceGhidorah 07:02, January 3, 2010 (UTC)

Rename?

This page should be renamed to Great Divine Soldier of Obelisk, as that is this card's Japanese name in actuality, and it's confusing for two "Obelisk the Tormentor" pages. --68.80.118.41 21:06, 6 March 2009 (UTC)Message courtesy of Snapesnatch. That is the translation of the Japanese name. Same with the other "Obelisk". It's a different version of the same card, "Obelisk the Tormentor" is obviously the English name. -- Deltaneos (talk) 19:46, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Notable Ruling, and ramifications for Translation of Effect

Although it probably seems that someone wouldn't want ever to, Konami has clarified the limiting factors on Obelisk's Summoning Condition - we can't Set it from our hands.

This hasn't been seen on a card before; I would argue that it is something distinctly specific to Obelisk's text, as if "このカードを通常召喚する場合、自分フィールド上のモンスター３体をリリースして召喚しなければならない" does not mean that it simply costs 3 Tributes to Normal Summon Obelisk, but almost like there's an additional clause to say "also, you must Summon it, not Set it". Take a close look at the text; notice how it says "自分フィールド上のモンスター３体をリリースして召喚しなければならない". While it may be translatable as "it cannot be done without Tributing 3 monsters", this does not account for all of the text.

To be literal, we must translate it as "it cannot be done without Tributing 3 monsters and Normal Summoning."

Real?

Is this card even real? I don't think there was a BP01-EN021 edition; especially as there is no 1st edition God card. There is however, a legal JUMP-EN037 card (Like Ra). 92.25.67.76 (talk) 07:38, June 8, 2013 (UTC)

And BP02 are official right now, we only have "Official Proxy" here. So yes, that picture is not ready to be displaying on the article until we get the legal printed to upload on. "The Winged Dragon of Ra" was only one to get that Proxy was because of errata, while other two, this card and Osiris, do not get their effect errata at all. --iFredCat 09:47, June 8, 2013 (UTC)

effect negation and summoning negation

This is so confusing, when this god is summoned, when can you start using magic, traps and so on in the duel again it's not specific, and does that mean current effects like imperial order can stay on the field

When Obelisk is Normal Summoned, you cannot activate cards or effects. You also cannot use cards like Solemn Warning or Judgment to attempt to negate its Summon either. Cards that are continuous, like Imperial Order however are unaffected. After the very short time it has been Normal Summoned, you can proceed to use card effects as normal. Please post questions like this in a forum.
