Xtra HERO (Ｘ・ＨＥＲＯ（エクストラヒーロー）, Ekusutora Hīrō) is a sub-series of the "HERO" archetype that is comprised completely of Link Monsters. It is the first, and currently only, sub-group of the "HERO" archetype that has not been used by any character in any of the anime or manga, and is the first "HERO" theme to be introduced since the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX era (excluding the illegal "E☆HERO" monster and "Contrast HERO").

Playing Style

The "Xtra HERO" monsters play a supplemental role to the various "HERO" monsters and sub-archetypes, either as a whole or to specific said sub-archetypes. "Wonder Driver" in particular counts as the former, given "HERO"'s predisposition to Fusion Summoning, by effectively recycling the Spells that facilitate their ability to Summon such Fusion Monsters. As for the latter, "Cross Crusader" specifically calls for use of "Destiny HERO" monsters (fitting as its Japanese name shares the "guy" naming convention with said archetype), but after which can assist in all "HERO" strategies by searching among their differently-named monsters.
