Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters (GameBoy)

Platform: Game Boy Japanese Release Date: December 17, 1998 (Japan only)

Duel Monsters was the first ever video game for Yu-Gi-Oh!. At this point, the first series of the show, Sennen Puzzle Saga, was airing. It shows through this game, since the rules are pretty much thrown out the window and it's an all out attack monster versus attack monster game. Another thing that is blaring is the black and white graphics. This game is intended for the ORIGINAL Game Boy, released almost ten years before this game, so obviously the graphics have to conform to the system's old time interface. Quite a few of the monsters in the manga are in this game, with their manga art. That is what I appreciate most about this game- it goes back to a time before Shadow Realm and Heart of the Cards, to when it was all about a madman going against the world. Obviously, since Yuugiou wasn't even popular in the US until late 2001/early 2002, this game was not going to be released in the US, with its old time graphics. In fact, the GBA was already out by the time Yuugiou was popular, however GBC games were still being made at the time, therefore allowing at least one pre-GBA game to make it to the US- Duel Monsters 3, or as the US call it Dark Duel Stories.
