Q&A Rulings

  • Q: Can you activate the effect of "Genex Ally Birdman" while "Degenerate Circuit" is active?
A: If "Battle Fader" or "Plaguespreader Zombie" was Special Summoned by its own effect, then it is removed from play when it is removed from the field. Thus, you cannot activate the effect of "Genex Ally Birdman" by returning such a monster to the hand. Also, if "Degenerate Circuit" is active, then you cannot return cards to the hand, so you cannot activate the effect of a card like "Genex Ally Birdman" or "Mist Valley Shaman".[1]
  • Q: Can you Special Summon "Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World" from the Graveyard even if "Degenerate Circuit" is active?
A: If "Degenerate Circuit" is active, then you cannot return cards on the field back to the hand, so you cannot Special Summon "Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World" from the Graveyard.[2]
  • Q: When "Imperial Iron Wall" and "Degenerate Circuit" are active, are Monster Cards removed when they are sent to the Hand?
A: If "Imperial Iron Wall" is active, then "Degenerate Circuit"'s effect is not applied.[3]
  • Q: While "Degenerate Circuit" has been activated, can a Monster Card be returned to the Hand when "Mist Valley Falcon" attacks?
A: If "Degenerate Circuit" is active, then "Mist Valley Falcon" cannot choose to return a Monster Card to the Hand because it would be removed from play.[4]
  • Q: "Degenerate Circuit" is face-up in my opponent's Spell & Trap Zone. In this situation, if I Tribute a "Vortex Trooper" to Tribute Summon a "Fantastic Striborg" face-up, what happens to that "Vortex Trooper"?
A: In this scenario, since a monster Tributed for the Tribute Summon of "Fantastic Striborg" is returned to the hand instead of being sent to the Graveyard, that monster is banished instead due to the effect of "Degenerate Circuit".[5]
