Hi,
I've a good few questions that need answering!
The monster effect of Ancient Gear Engineer states 'Negate the effect of any Trap Card that targets this card, and destroy that Trap Card. If this card attacks, your opponent cannot activate any Spell or Trap Cards until the end of the Damage Step. When this card attacks, destroy 1 Spell or Trap Card on your opponent's side of the field at the end of the Damage Step'. Do I have to destroy a spel or trap in order to attack with it or is it just optional?
The monster effect of Dark Resonator states 'Once per turn, if this card would be destroyed by battle, it is not destroyed. (Damage calculation is applied normally)'. Why when it is attacked in face down defence position, is it not destroyed since monster effect are applied after damage calculation or is it because its a continuous effect the reason? Is the same true for Reese the Ice Mistress, when it is attacked face down by a level 4 monster?
Can the trap card Waboku stop Obelisk from causing damage or destroying your monsters since its not really targeting him?
The trap card Ultimate Offering can be used during your oppenents battle phase to normal summon, since it doesn't state at what part of the battle phase it can be used, could I use it either at the start or at the end of the battle phase?

- 1) Destroying a S/T card is mandatory so you must destroy one if the opponent has one at the end of the Damage Step. But that doesn't mean that if the opponent doesn't have any card you cannot attack. You can attack normally and destroy nothing in that case.
- 2) See Breakdown of the Battle Phase! The monster is flipped face-up by the battle during the Sub-Step 2 of the Damage Step. The monster is determined as "destroyed by battle" during the Sub-Step 5. So the monster is already face-up in Sub-Step 5 and apply its effect(s), thus it isn't destroyed by battle. The same for Reese the Ice Mistress.
- 3) Waboku prevents your monsters from being destroyed by battle, not by other cards' effects like Obelisk the Tormentor's.
- 4) You can activate it's effect during any time of the Battle Phase except during the Damage Step.
