Forum:Anime Featured Duel Format

As I'm sure everyone who's looked at the recent Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's episode articles, the way in which Featured Duels section is written keeps getting changed every few episodes. As the method writing the Featured Duels section is constantly being changed every couple of episodes so I would wish to know how people want to see the Featured Duels being written so that this near constant changing comes to a stop for the time being. The way I've been writing the Featured Duels is like this:

<center><b><big>Player A vs. Player B</big></b></center>

<u>Player A's Turn</u><br/>
Player A does such-and-such

<u>Player B's Turn</u><br/>
Player B does such-and-such

<u>Player A's Turn</u><br/>
Player A.....

So that is how I am writing the Featured Duel section currently. So please comment on how you feel the Featured Duels should be written in future. --Trivi-AM (talk) 21:59, November 28, 2009 (UTC)

Finally a forum in Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki Discussion, which is y'know... Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki discussion. Said format looks mostly fine to me (although probably by accident, you're missing either a <br /> or a line break after the </u>s). For the "Player A vs. Player B" part, I think we should use subheaders (===). At least for the episodes where multiple Duels take place, so readers can jump straight to the one they want to see from the table of contents. For consistancy sake, it might be better to use the subheader, even if there's only 1 Duel. Minor detail: Does "turn" really need to be capitalised, it's not a proper noun.
One thing you haven't mentioned is the format in "Player A does such-and-such". Some people have putting the actions in a bulleted list. (e.g. here) I don't find that very neat, especially with the dashes in place of actual bullets. It's not even 1 action per bullet nor is it related actions that share bullets... what dictates when we should start a new bullet? Anyway, I think it looks better in paragraphs, rather than lists. -- Deltaneos (talk) 22:25, November 28, 2009 (UTC)
I also think we should add subheaders to each player's turn, and possibly number each turn. Also, kudos to whoever takes the time to write the "Featured Duels" sections, you have my praise. Much of my time on Yugioh-Wikia is spent browsing the Featured Duels, seeing as I don't get to watch the anime too often.--Black Rose 23:19, November 28, 2009 (UTC)
I was suggesting a subheader for each Duel, not each turn. i.e. add the subheader to the "Playr A vs. Player B" part. 1 for each turn, I believe is really overdoing it and it messes-up the table of contents. -- Deltaneos (talk) 23:30, November 28, 2009 (UTC)
Yeah it was an accident, I've added the <br/> to it now. I agree with not doing a subheader for each turn because, as Deltaneos said, it messes up the contents table. On a slightly different note I don't think it's necessary to add links to the characters who are duelling in the subheading (as seen here) as it can be easily done when the characters name is mentioned in their first turn (as show above). --Trivi-AM (talk) 12:03, November 29, 2009 (UTC)
I agree. Linking words in headers is kinda of eyesore. -- Deltaneos (talk) 15:16, November 30, 2009 (UTC)

I had a format of my own; not sure if it helps the discussion any, but I'll just put it up for your perusal here. Danny Lilithborne 06:37, December 1, 2009 (UTC)

Revised Version[edit]

I know it's been a while since I brought up this subject, but with the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's episodes quality when it comes to the Featured Duels I thought I might as well make a revised version of the Featured Duel format. Below is an example of the format that I am using currently (apologies in advance for the width of the length of the example).

Featured Duels
Player A vs. Player B
<u>Player A's turn</u><br/>
Player A summons "Mystical Elf" (ATK:800), they then activates "Level Limit - Area B" which turns "Mystical Elf" to Defense Position (DEF:2000). Player A ends their turn.

<u>Player B's turn</u><br/>
Player B summons "X-Saber Airbellum" (ATK:1600) they then activate "Brain Control", paying 800 Life Points (Player B:4000 → 3200 Life Points) to take control of Player A's "Mystical Elf". Player B then attacks Player A directly with "X-Saber Airbellum" (Player A:4000 → 2400 Life Points). Player B ends their turn, "Mystical Elf" returns to Player A's side of the field.

<u>Player A's turn</u><br/>
Player A....

This revision is very similar to the previous one, but there are a few differences. The mian difference is that instead of constantly linking the names of Characters, Card names, ATK and DEF they shall only be linked once. Another change is that when a player's Life Points or a Monster's ATK of DEF increases or decreases instead of just including the new value it will include the change itself, similar to the way it has been done in the 5D's manga chapters (example). So please comment on this revision and whether you feel it needs improving, and if so what area(s) improvement is needed. --Trivi-AM (talk) 16:33, June 15, 2010 (UTC)

Another possibility[edit]

I would like to point out a format allowing some of the code formatting to be eliminated:

Featured Duels
Player A vs. Player B
;<u>Player A's turn</u>
:Player A summons "Mystical Elf" (ATK:800), they then activates "Level Limit - Area B" which turns "Mystical Elf" to Defense Position (DEF:2000). Player A ends their turn.

;<u>Player B's turn</u>
:Player B summons "X-Saber Airbellum" (ATK:1600) they then activate "Brain Control", paying 800 Life Points (Player B:4000 → 3200 Life Points) to take control of Player A's "Mystical Elf". Player B then attacks Player A directly with "X-Saber Airbellum" (Player A:4000 → 2400 Life Points). Player B ends their turn, "Mystical Elf" returns to Player A's side of the field.

;<u>Player A's turn</u>
:Player A....

It uses a definition list, auto-bolding the "Player X's turn" text and removing the need for the forced linebreak. Thoughts? ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 02:56, July 31, 2010 (UTC)
