Forum:Barbaros question!

Okay, i'll try to explain my doubt:

-Player 1 summon Beast King Barbaros with his effect, having 1900 ATK. After, he set Forbidden Chalice and end his turn.

-Player 2, in his Main Phase, uses Shrink on Barbaros (or summon Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind and use his effect), leaving Barbaros with just 950 ATK.

-Player 2 enter his Battle Phase, and attacks Barbaros with whatever monster (could be Gale, as well). Player 1 then activates Forbidden Chalice on Beast King Barbaros, and now my question is: which is gonna be Barbaros's ATK? Will nullify the previous effect of Shrink (or Gale) and stay with 3400 atk? (this same question could be applied to Skill Drain, instead of Forbidden Chalice)

"Beast King Barbaros" will have 1350 ATK. The last effect to set a new ATK is "Shrink"/"Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind", so "Forbidden Chalice" will negate the effect of "Beast King Barbaros", not reset his effect because it has been modified by another card:

If "Beast King Barbaros" Normal Summoned without Tributes and is then is targeted by the effect of "Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind", then the ATK of "Beast King Barbaros" will become 950. If "Skill Drain" is activated later, then the ATK of "Beast King Barbaros" will remain at 950, the halved value set by the effect of "Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind".

In this scenario, take the ruling above, switch "Skill Drain" with "Forbidden Chalice", and add 400 ATK to the newly altered "Beast King Barbaros". DemonGodAsura 18:15, March 26, 2010 (UTC)

Shrink works differently than Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind. Shrink doesn't "lock" the ATK of the affected monster to that halved value. After Forbidden Chalice is used on Beast King Barbaros, his Original ATK will become 3000 and then Shrink's effect will be re-applied to that new Original ATK and makes it 1500. And with the +400 ATK bonus from the effect of Forbidden Chalice, Beast King Barbaros's current ATK will be 1900.

With Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind is as DemonGodAsura (and the ruling) said.

Another question

If the opponent activated Shrink/Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind and I chain Skill Drain or Forbidden Chalice, then would Barbaros have 1500 or 1700 Attack?

Well, that depends on what you Chain. If you Chain "Skill Drain", then the ATK will be 1500. If you Chain "Forbidden Chalice", it will be 1900. You reset the ATK, apply the ATK modifier to the original ATK, halve the original ATK, then re-apply the ATK modifier to the new original ATK. DemonGodAsura 00:36, March 27, 2010 (UTC)

Err, as has been mentioned above, Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind "locks in" the ATK of Beast King Barbaros to that halved value. So even if Skill Drain is activated his ATK will remain at 1500. ATEMVEGETA (Talk) 13:42, March 27, 2010 (UTC)
