Forum:Blue Flame Swordsman + Backfire

I was scouring for a similar ruling to answer this, but I couldn't quite come up with an answer. In regards to the Timing rules, Blue Flame Swordsman's effect "When this is card you control is destroyed by your opponent's card and sent to your Graveyard: You can... etc." is worded in such a way that he is potentially subject to missing the timing (right?). I was wondering, if I have Backfire face-up on the field when he is destroyed, will that card automatically cause BFS to miss his timing? From what I could tell, the compulsory nature of Backfire's effect would do this, but I also read how multiple effects can activate simultaneously to create a chain or new chain. I wasn't sure if BFS would be capable of triggering at the same time as Backfire "When a FIRE Monster [Blue Flame Swordsman] is destroyed and sent to the graveyard," and would then proceed to create a chain, starting with the mandatory effect of Backfire as CL1 and then BFS at CL2.

Likewise for Valkyrian Knight (virtually same effect as BFS), and for Brushfire Knight (in place of Backfire. It'd work with Backfire as both are mandatory, I believe, but wondering about BFS and VK working with Brushfire (Backfire'd prolly answer this)). Also, how about Kickfire? I believe I read that placing the counter on it did not begin a chain, so I assumed that would have no ill-effect on cards like BFS. Thanks for your help, guys. With regards to missing the timing, always check what happened before the Chain is formed. Backfire and Blue Flame Swordsman will, as you said, form a Chain. However, if the last thing that happened before this Chain was Blue Flame Swordsman's destruction, it will not miss the timing. The same thing happens with Valkyrian Knight and Brushfire Knight. For Kickfire's counter collection effect, notice the lack of a colon or semicolon in that sentence. This means that the effect is continuous and will not start a Chain. --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 16:46, October 17, 2013 (UTC)
