Forum:Casual Tournament Fail

  • So I was at a totally casual tournament, $5 and 2 hours of fun, casual, dueling. The way it works is, the round listings are printed up on this piece of paper, you see who you're dueling and you have a 30-45 min. duel and after the time is up, they post the next round. Fun, right? Wrong. It's my first duel, I battle this guy. Let's call him...<3less. Anyway, <3less pulls his deck out of it's Super Rare Super Awesome Chocolatey-fudge-coated Mega Super Deck case and lo and behold, it's a FROG FTK DECK!!!!!! WTF?!?!?!?!? This is supposed to be a casual tournament and <3less brings a Frog FTK Deck? there is absolutely no prize support based on how well you do, so why waste $5 so you can beat 4 people at yugioh? Has any one else had a similar experience? i'm just venting after this.Jaffacakes42

There's always someone who is stuck on the "competitive" mindset, and would just bring their top-tier deck into a casual tournament for the objective of winning at all costs. --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 09:05, October 1, 2010 (UTC)

If the tournament says "for non 'Competitive' decks only" then I'll assume that this tourny won't be actually too challenging because you're dueling decks that can't fully measure how strong or effective your own deck against the hailed decks. Yes, I feel your pain. Someone just have to bring a FROG FTK deck when you're just testing your deck out. --SilentHero26 (talkcontribs) 12:31, October 1, 2010 (UTC)

Some people are just jackasses. There were some people like that that ran first tier decks in my area at not even tourneys. So you have people that are barely a year into the game getting whomped by Lightsworm Tele-Dad and Zombies. They kicked our asses regularly till we got better and started anticapting what would get hit in their decks before it did and eventually began to smoke them as they were stuck with failing decks. 68.40.106.199 (talk) 06:26, October 3, 2010 (UTC)

Theres people that play for fun, people who play for profit and winning only, and then theres the last kinda people who play liek a madman with no manners yelling shouting/cussing and acts like the game is life or death(god i hate dealing with them people)and if they lose they throw a fit, thekeypoint in a tournamanet is usually returning local duelists but there will be newcomers who just wanna slam down the competition.--Raventheblack (talkcontribs) 23:33, October 4, 2010 (UTC)

High Five! Man my point in the card game is just to play the card game for fun. Yugioh GX already prove my point. Who plays the card game for winning? You make it look like a sport, which is what it's not suppose to be. It's suppose to be a card game that everyone wants to play. I bet some of the reason why people quit Yugioh is because of them. But then again, I should thank them because otherwise the prices would skyrocket for them. Fallensilence (talkcontribs) 02:52, October 5, 2010 (UTC)

I can't say I blame you, many people at my local cardshop are assholes & i never talk to them. However there are people who are really nice & i have gotten along with them quite well. Local tourneys i rarely play, neither in sanctioned upper division tournaments. Many players at that level are real assholes & i can't stand playing them. They bug your for the most ridiculous crap. I had a duelist one time report to a judge because my deck mat was all white with no print. WTF!? I got a warning & i was being watched for the rest of match. Don't put yourself through the pain that i went through, if tournaments are what u like by all means go. Automation44 (talkcontribs) 04:38, October 5, 2010 (UTC)Automation44

For some reason, if card games is power, then I wouldn't really live in there. I really don't want to see jerks ruling the world. Fallensilence (talkcontribs) 23:03, October 5, 2010 (UTC)

WTF you got warned cause of a playmat?Id seriously take that up with some real judges a playmat has no effect on the game whatsoever its just to protect your cards,i feel bad for you guys getting harassed around you should try looking online and become qulaified judges yourselves its easy and once you get it done nobody bosses you around and you can report wrongful rules in place and have the support of sanctioned tourneys shut off from the cardstore until a higher up judge comes and determines if the cardstore and players are tournmanet worthy(when i played naruto i had people boss me on rules just so they can win and once i became a judge they were under my foot they argued i merely pointed to the door and the store owner kindly escorted them out, simpel as that)i agree with Fallensilence that cardgames should be just about fun but the fact is nowadays people who have the money run the stuff and they tend to be jerks,i mean look at our last president bush no one liked him e ruined our country yet somehow he got into office(i think it was a scam)and yeah if a place was run by cardgames idk that sounds like a powerstruggle between rich and poor.Raventheblack (talkcontribs) 23:55, October 5, 2010 (UTC)

I still wonder why people use playmats to play card games when you play it on the table. Card sleeves are usually good enough. Fallensilence (talkcontribs) 23:57, October 5, 2010 (UTC)

Usually theres no need to use a playmat when people got cardsleeves, often however i mean idk about the rest of you but the cardplaces i went to food and drinks were allowed and sometimes those tables would just be a mess with chips pizza sauce and pop spilled all over it,it was pretty bad and often after cleaning it up people would use their mats, mats were often used as a small confidence boost and often used by people whose deck reflected the mat an example was often people who ran crystal beasts would use the rainbow dragon mat it is to show off a bit but not in a bad way and the fabirc on the mat is defiantly better putting your hands and cards on as it was softer then the cold table your playing on,i never got mats when i played yugioh but i got a nice amount of them in naruto like a sexy looking tsunade mat a mat with naruto and all his gang on them and trust me it made a lot of people jealous when i won those mats, but in the end they were for just personell use its not like they affect the game their just to show off a little bit and sometimes show accomplishments, mats are also quite popular and can go for 15-40 bucks so they also sell quite well and sometimes they were trade fodder.Raventheblack (talkcontribs) 00:13, October 6, 2010 (UTC)

Still I don't like to use deck mats, especially on dirty places because you would get them dirty. Naruto was a good anime series though but I kind of got bored of it. And you can use deck mats for trade fodder? Sir or Mam, you are a genius. Fallensilence (talkcontribs) 00:25, October 6, 2010 (UTC)

It wasnt uncommon for people to give out a few super and 1 or 2 ultra rares in exchange for a playmat.you could usually only get a playmat by going to a pre-release or winning a tournament or thru some events as such the general populace didnt have access to them except thru things like e-bay although some card stores sold playmats they usually sold for top dollar so people would just trade to get them especially if it was a general favorite playmat they loved.Raventheblack (talkcontribs) 01:18, October 6, 2010 (UTC)

I can see a lot of Stardust mats being sold a lot. A lot of people love the card. Fallensilence (talkcontribs) 02:40, October 6, 2010 (UTC)

Hey, how come we are now discussing deck mats? To be in the current subject, in our place we don't even know that there was a "deck mat" until some rich boy showed us. Why would you use deck mats, anyways? Some of us doesn't even use sleeves! It's up to the user how he carefully handles his deck but deck mats? Seriously? I think I can't bear to carry a mat if I'm just looking someone to play with. --SilentHero26 (talkcontribs) 13:33, October 6, 2010 (UTC)
