Forum:Chapter and episode card gallery categorization

What would be everyone's thoughts on splitting up Category:Episode Card Galleries and Category:Chapter Card Galleries by language (Japanese/English/etc. Chapter/Episode Card Galleries) and series (Yu-Gi-Oh! (manga)/Yu-Gi-Oh! (first series anime)/etc. Chapter/Episode Card Galleries)? There aren't terribly many of them yet, but there's potential for hundreds more to be created (and that's only between the Japanese and English versions of the anime and manga series). 「ダイノガイ千？！」^{? · ☎ Dinoguy1000} 04:18, March 10, 2011 (UTC)

I would agree. At this point, I'm pretty steadily creating GX manga card galleries. I may move onto R and/or 5D's assuming I finish GX. As for episode card galleries, not my thing - searching for images is pain. Plus, I have this thing about creating an article/gallery that's not as complete as I can make it on the first edit. I wouldn't want to create episode card galleries unless I had at least 90% of the images for that episode there already. Cheesedude (talk • contribs) 20:56, March 15, 2011 (UTC)

Well, as I have been told, silence implies consensus. ;) I would suggest creating subcategories for "Episode/Chapter Card Galleries" named "Episode/Chapter Card Galleries by series" and something like "Episode/Chapter Card Galleries by language (region? release?)". The first, then, would be subdivided into "Yu-Gi-Oh!/GX/5D's/R/etc. Episode/Chapter Card Galleries", and the second into "Japanese/English/International/etc. Episode/Chapter Card Galleries". (I would take this opportunity to also argue for lowercasing the term "Episode/Chapter Card Galleries", but that would make them inconsistent with Category:Card Gallery et al) 「ダイノガイ千？！」^{? · ☎ Dinoguy1000} 09:30, March 16, 2011 (UTC)

If you give me a bit more instruction, I'll gladly go ahead and create the categories. I accidentally came across the first nine chapters of the GX manga in English, so I'll likely be doing card galleries for them. Getting this out of the way first would probably be a good idea. When you say a category called "Chapter Card Galleries by series", do you mean and actual category called that with subcategories for the series? I mean an actual category by that name, with per-series subcategories (though I'm not sure if we should go with "Yu-Gi-Oh! Chapter Card Galleries" or "Chapter Card Galleries for/from/in Yu-Gi-Oh!" I started on this, but I'm unsure of what to do with the sortkey. I can't seem to think of reason why the sortkey needs to be there, since it appears it categorizes in the same order either way in this case. I want clarification before I continue. The sortkey is used to keep the pages from sorting under the namespace (though in this case, it's basically just switching from sorting under "C" to sorting under "Y" for all the pages, so maybe not as useful...). Perhaps it would be better to sort under episode/chapter number (with episodes/chapters under number 100 being padded to three digits with 0s, as is done pretty much everywhere else)... I realize that that's what the sortkey does. However, I'm not sure how to use it properly in most cases. So you mean it would be something like "Yu-Gi-Oh! GX - Chapter 001 (JP), Chapter Card Galleries"? Also, should I go ahead and create categories for mediums that don't have an galleries yet, or should that wait until there is something to categorize under it? No, it would be something like "Yu-Gi-Oh! GX - Chapter 001 (JP)" (i.e. what you would get from {{subst:PAGENAME}}). However, the more I think about it, the less good sortkeys seem like they'd do in this case. I'd say, therefore, to just leave the sortkeys off of the categories for the Episode/Chapter Card Galleries.
