Forum:Crazy Idea: Abundance Turbo?

So last night I was thinking about Crystal Beasts and why they aren't competitive (because I think they're really fun to play with). My conclusion was that they're too slow and only hit their stride mid- to late-game. So I started thinking of ways to speed it up. The end result looks a little something like this:

So let me break it down: The objective here is the Crystal Abundance OTK. The idea is to mill a lot of CB's to the Graveyard and then use Diamond Dude's effect to activate Crystal Abundance and swarm the field for the OTK. Since I'll be facing huge backrows this format, it'll be nice to know my ace card can't be negated (though it can be removed..) Alternatively, I can use the OTK normally.

The monster line-up: 3 copies each of the strongest CB's, Pegasus, Mammoth and Tiger. Pegasus thins the deck and sets up Rare Value and Abundance. Mammoth protects my other CB's, including the self-powering-up Tiger. Tiger can hold his own against any level 4 monster as long as he's attacking, and if he happens to tie he goes straight to my spell and trap card zones. Cat and Tortoise are relatively useful, so I have doubles of them (because I thought my CB count was too low). Next, I have included 3 copies of Destiny Hero - Diamond Dude. The deck runs a grand total of 15 Normal Spell cards, almost all of which with costs or activation requirements. Constant shuffling means I don't lose any important cards to his effect. Though the requirements for the milled Spells are typically easy to meet, circumventing them is always useful, as is the Deck Thinning. To search my Diamond Dude I have included a single Elemental Hero Stratos (who of course is Limited). Plaguespreader Zombie allows for Synchros in a pinch but his main purpose is to set up plays with Diamond Dude. He returns a Spell to the top of the deck, I use Diamond Dude's effect. Simple. Beautiful. Finally, 3 Rykos help to speed up the deck and provide destruction effects.

The spells and trap:3 Abundance is for the OTK. 3 Beacon thins the deck, and grabs an extra CB for deck thinning. I can grab Pegasus for further thinning. 2 Blessing reloads my S/T zone after using Rare Value or Abundance, and recovers CB's milled by Ryko or lost to a Hyunlei or MST. Dark Hole is a Staple, and I don't really lose my CB's when they're destroyed. Destiny Draw thins the deck and can be used normally with Diamond Dude or through his effect. Reborn is another Staple, also helps to recover lost CB's or take an opponent's powerful monster that got Ryko'd. MST helps take out threats to my monsters, though I have a feeling it may be unnecessary. I'm considering dropping it for something else. 3 Rare Value speeds through the deck, and loads the Graveyard with CB's to be restored with Blessing or revived with Abundance. 2 Trap Stun helps shut down threats to my OTK. Finally, the lone Mirror Force is a self-explanatory Staple that can help keep me from getting crushed.

Keep in mind that this deck is completely untested and it's more than likely I overlooked some good possibilities, so any suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks in advance! Lappyzard (talkcontribs) 20:39, February 28, 2011 (UTC)

If im being honest, that looks like a brilliantly made CB deck. I reckon though that a Trap Stun or 2 could help out, as you only use 1 trap so it will rarely hurt your game. Doz Bate: Stay (sic)!! 02:55, March 1, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. =) Still untested, but making a couple changes based on your suggestions and some from another forum I posted this to. Lappyzard (talkcontribs) 03:21, March 1, 2011 (UTC)

In relation to the Single trap thing, While I agree with Trap Stun, Treacherous Trap Hole might be another idea, Also, would A Feather of the Phoenix be of use?-Resk (Talk) 11:47, March 1, 2011 (UTC)

While intriguing ideas, I feel that my current Trap set-up is better than Treacherous Trap Hole, and a Feather of the Phoenix seems rather situational and a bit counterintuitive. Thanks for the suggestions though. Lappyzard (talkcontribs) 19:54, March 1, 2011 (UTC)

How about Dark Eruption for in case you mill Diamond Dude. Also, you could use Fosill Dyna Pachycephalo or Vanity's Fiend to stop all of the possible threats against this OTK barring Swift Scarecrow, so you may want to consider one of those. Battlemaniac (talkcontribs) 22:25, March 1, 2011 (UTC)

Although interesting ideas, I again feel that they are too situational. Thanks anyway. Lappyzard (talkcontribs) 20:18, March 2, 2011 (UTC)

I have been using CB's for years now. I have a competitive CB deck that I just won a local tourney with and have topped a Regionals with, as hard as it is to believe. I feel you should take out a Topaz and a Tortoise to add 2 Carbuncle. Carbuncle is just too good and should be a staple in ANY CB deck. Yes, while Topaz is a beat stick and can increase to 2000, it's only when he attacks. I, personally, only like running 2 of him. I believe Mammoth is a better card than Topaz, because of his protecting effect and the fact that after an Abundance'd field, he'll be stronger than Topaz.

I would also consider running a Torrential Tribute and 2 Bottomless Trap Holes for to slow down the opposition. Just my good old two cents, Hope it helps.

Thank you for your suggestions: however, I find Ruby to be generally useless. With limited means of Special Summoning him, I see little reason to add even 1. The primary summon method would probably be Abundance, and as it stands there would be no CB's to use the effect on. I like your Trap suggestions, but am not sure if I'll have room. Running more Traps would take away from Diamond Dude's effect. Anyways, I still haven't got around to testing it (so busy >.<) but when I do I'll probably make some changes, so I'll keep what you said in mind. Thanks!
