Forum:Des Gardius/Necrofear Deck

Masked Beast Des Gardius has always fascinated me. It's a powerful Fiend with an interesting theft effect and weird summoning conditions. For that matter, Dark Necrofear interested me too for precisely the same reasons. So, I figured I'd make a deck out of both.

For the record, this deck follows the September '09 lists... so, here's the run-down. I have 3 each of Des Gardius and Necrofear, and 3 Melchids to boot (Melchid beats Grand Tiki Elder because of its slightly higher DEF). I'm not worried about having too many of any of these. Summoner Monk can bring out Melchid for a quick Des Gardius, by tributing Summoner Monk and Melchid. Sangan is a good searcher and a Fiend to boot, and thus compatible with Necrofear. Mystic Tomato is a must with the plethora of DARK monsters in the deck. Giant Germ is a quite good monster for walling. Because I plan to use multiple Dark Necrofears in any given duel, Doomsday Horror can make use of and recycle my Fiends; it can also boost from my opponent's removed monsters. Darknight Parshath also works with Doomsday Horror and provides draw power. Raven is an amazing tuner, loading the grave for Necrofear, boosting its own ATK, and modulating its level. Dark Mimic LV3 provides draw power. Gorz and Tragoedia provide emergency defense, and Tragoedia has a multitude of amazing effects (theft via discard, level modulation) that make it awesome. Finally, Armageddon Knight loads my graveyard for Necrofear.

One thing that this deck has going for it is that, being both DARK and level 8, Necrofear and Des Gardius have good draw power with them. Specifically, Trade-In, Allure of Darkness, and Veil of Darkness. The latter can load my graveyard extremely quickly with Fiends. The Mask of Remnants has the ability to shuffle itself back into the deck and become useful to me. Foolish Burial should be an obvious pick. Finally, the 2 Fissures allow for some powerful direct attacks; with all the theft going on, it should be easy.

Call of the Haunted is the obvious staple card here. Escape from the Dark Dimension should be about as easy to activate in this deck. Mirror Force is another obvious staple. Finally, the Viruses are compatible with Necrofear and Des Gardius (and, potentially, Darknight Parshath or Doomsday Horror). Eradicator will probably only be useful with Des Gardius, but it means the ability to lock my opponent out of spells or traps, and snatching their monster into the bargain!

Also, I have a list of Synchro monsters, notable only for its inclusion of Fiend Roar Deities. Tell me what you think of this concept deck. Runer5h 22:08, 31 August 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

Why 2 Deck Devastation Viruses? You don't have many targets unless you include Des Gardius and Necrofear, and Necrofear's effect won't activate if used for Deck Devastation Virus, while you lose a major beat stick if you use Des Gardius. Maybe you should drop one... Oh, and shouldn't you add some trap negation?--Akuma the avenger 22:53, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Des Gardius is an ideal target, as its effect will activate without missing the timing. Darknight Parshath will also become a valid target without too much trouble. Using Deck Devastation, I get to nail Murmillo and Bestiari, Gale, Blizzard and Vayu, Lumina and Aurkus, etc. But I guess I will take out one of them and put in Dark Bribe. ADDED SIDE DECK.

I've got the ability to turn this deck into a Skill Drain variant (none of Necrofear's or Gardius' effects activate on field) or a DARK return build (using Dark Armed Dragon) via the side deck. Forbidden Chalice can negate pesky monster effects selectively in Skill Drain or out of it. Light-Imprisoning Mirror allows for Lightsworn Matchups to go my way. Malevolent Catastrophe can punish players who overextend in the S/T zone and can nail pesky Shadow-Imprisoning Mirrors. Runer5h 19:02, September 1, 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

Im not so experienced at this sort of deck but I'll share my ideas. I'm loving most of your ideas. I say drop Dark Mimic LV3, side Deck Devastation Virus. You have a lot of graveyard manipulation, so I say add DaD, add plaguespreader, I almost want to say add Necroface over doomsday but I'm not sure how that'll work out. Possibly Swing of Memories? I'll let you know if I have any more ideas

Thanks for the tips. I guess I will side Deck Devastation Virus (but not Eradicator Epidemic) and remove Dark Mimic, and bring in DAD and Plaguespreader. Of course, with DAD being another Nomi, I can't justify Darknight Parshath staying in any longer, so I'll drop it and add in another Dark Bribe. Runer5h 00:11, September 2, 2009 (UTC)Runer5h
EDIT: Removed a copy of Armageddon Knight for Marauding Captain, which should help the deck bring out Des Gardius quickly. Runer5h 16:26, September 2, 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

yea good idea. I actually have all these cards so im gonna test it out myself, ill let you know if I can think of any ideas

Batteriespwn 01:17, September 3, 2009 (UTC)

Oh? That's nice of you. Beat some heads in for me, will you? Runer5h 00:50, September 4, 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

I tested it myself.

And - you won't believe it when I tell you - Foolish Burial is absolutely unnecessary! I'm getting my monsters into the grave so fast that it's absolutely superfluous. Instead, I'm sticking in 2 copies of Monster Reincarnation. They'll help me control my graveyard count better and get back Gardiuses and Necrofears. Runer5h 18:17, September 19, 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

I honestly found the same thing, and good idea, sorry i forgot about the thread

Batteriespwn 20:34, September 19, 2009 (UTC)

Not a problem. Did you observe anything else? Runer5h 01:27, September 20, 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

EDIT: Removed Marauding Captain (useless) for Dark Grepher. Runer5h 02:36, September 20, 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

I notice a lot that I would love to have a t-roar

Batteriespwn 02:52, September 20, 2009 (UTC)

Me too, a bit. I'll think about that. Runer5h 03:11, September 20, 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

OK, I've swapped out the Dark Bribes for T-Roars. I also swapped out Eradicator for MST - this deck had no S/T destruction before. Finally, I'm getting rid of Dark Armed Dragon because this deck gets way too many DARK monsters into the grave. In exchange, The Dark Creator goes in. Runer5h 14:59, September 20, 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

Hmm I liked the bribes, but ill try this

Batteriespwn 15:34, September 20, 2009 (UTC)

Hot damn, I'm glad I put in Dark Creator. I just won a game by wiping the field with BRD and swarming with it, Gorz and Dark Necrofear. Runer5h 15:48, September 20, 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

I love this deck.

The deck can bring out Des Gardius on the first turn with Summoner Monk or Dark Grepher. And, in my opinion, Des Gardius is one of the most frightening monsters in the metagame today; 3300 ATK and then theft if it gets destroyed. In fact, the deck has 8 different ways to take control of a monster; 3 Gardius, 3 Necrofear, Tragoedia and Goyo. But it doesn't end there. Oh no. This deck can get you in about 10 different ways; it can use Necrofear, Des Gardius, theft, Dark Creator, Doomsday Horror, Return from the Different Dimension, Gorz, synchros... the list goes on and on. And the draw power is outrageous - with 3 Trade-In, 2 Allure, and 2 Veil I'm going through my deck really quickly.

Now that I'm done with my exultant rant, is there anything else that I can do with this deck? Runer5h 17:34, September 20, 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

EDIT: I dropped a copy of Fissure for Darkness Neosphere, and another for Smashing Ground. Neosphere can turn a lackluster hand into an amazing one. It's also compatible with Allure, Veil and Dark Grepher, so it won't easily become a dead card. Runer5h 21:41, September 20, 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

I don't like that summoner monk cannot be tributed

Batteriespwn 21:19, September 21, 2009 (UTC)

Crap, I completely forgot it couldn't be tributed. In that case... I think I'll put in another Mystic Tomato instead. Runer5h 22:54, September 21, 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

I was so excited got the summoner monk combo going on and the guy im playing is like hey no can does has do that. and im like dammit. Ever think of a dark eruption or two? For reasons you could probably think of.
