I've dabbled in Insects before, and they're not bad as types go. A bit undersupported, perhaps, but useful... and I've noticed their key card is the continuous spell card, Verdant Sanctuary. Combine it with other cards to increase card advantage - recruiters, say - and something pretty powerful could happen. Then I thought, why not use Monarchs for even more card advantage?...

The idea stayed there for a while, because of what I said before - Insects are woefully undersupported. So it's a good thing that they now have 2 new cards - those are Danipon and XX-Saber Emmersblade. Both recruiters - exactly what I needed! So, here's what I came up with.

And here it is - this deck should be able to generate card advantage very quickly indeed.

The secret is the line-up of 12 recruiters, which work in tandem with Verdant Sanctuary. There's Gokipon and Danipon, which add to the hand, and Howling Insect and Emmersblade, which summon monsters. Conveniently, Gokipon and Danipon have the same level, which is essential for the abuse of Verdant Sanctuary - Emmersblade and Howling Insect have the same level as well.

Now, Emmersblade may seem like a bizarre choice, but in addition to searching itself, it can search one of my two copies of XX-Saber Fulhelmknight. It can block attacks, it's a tuner, and it has a nifty revival effect that I might even use once in a while. Aztekipede is an easy special summon - perfect for Monarchs - and it's a beatstick that can be searched by Danipon. Then comes my Monarch line-up - 3 Caius and 3 Raiza. So, a pretty good monster line-up in all.

The most important spell card, meanwhile, is Verdant Sanctuary. It allows me to thin my deck like crazy, and search out lots of insects. Getting to it is fairly important. Then, MST is fairly standard S/T removal. Book of Moon blocks attacks and so much else, and might even allow me to use Fulhelmknight's effect. Pot of Avarice refills my deck for the recruiter effects, and is a +1 in draw power. Finally, Heavy Storm may seem bizarre in a deck with a vital continuous spell card, but I think it's worth the risk. I'll just need to time it correctly.

For traps, I have 3 Phoenix Wing Wind Blasts. Perfect for pesky synchros, but it works on just about everything else as well. Torrential Tribute is a good card in general - here it has the added benefit of activating the effect of Verdant Sanctuary. Bottomless Trap Hole is a plain useful card, and Dark Bribe is there to protect my Sanctuary.

The extra deck's best card is XX-Saber Hyunlay, which is an astonishingly amazing card. Thanks to Emmersblade and Fulhelmknight, it's easy enough to summon, and since it destroys THREE spells or traps, it's just great. If I have Emmersblade and Sanctuary on the field, and Emmersblade is destroyed, I can special summon Fulhelmknight and search another copy of Emmersblade with Sanctuary. I simply summon Emmersblade next turn and do a synchro summon for great card advantage. The rest of the extra deck is fairly unremarkable.

So, tell me what you think of this concept deck. Runer5h 00:24, December 30, 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

I don't think you need Bottomless here. The point is to let your opponent kill off your searchers, and if they don't have a monster, they can't do that. Granted, it stops Synchros, but what Synchro will you stop, that prioty won't hit first? Mist Wurm and Trishula can still get their effects when hit, and Phoenix Wing Wind Blast should be enough to take care of the only real Synchro threat, Catastor. I think Bottomless can be replaced with a Spell, to add speed.--Akiza Izayoi 18:04, December 30, 2009 (UTC)

OK. I replaced it with two Upstart Goblins for speed. Runer5h 22:17, December 30, 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

Wow, I can't believe I didn't think of this - I'm swapping out the Upstart Goblins for 2 Creature Swap. This should make the deck faster, allowing me to pro-actively trigger monster effects. The drawback is that Verdant Sanctuary will apply to my opponent if I destroy the swapped monster - however, since most decks don't use insects I think I'm okay.
