Forum:Legal card sleeves?

So during my first regional, I saw like one or two people using Japanese imported card sleeves with anime-designs on them, they were in the tournie (they both had decklists). But many other duelists tell me that those kinds of sleeves are illegal. So I'd like to know if this sleeve is legal. My scanner is broken right now, so I'll post a redirect, (http://cgi.ebay.com/TCG-Deck-Sleeves-Anime-Sengoku-Nadeko-yugioh-import-jpn-/230576375627#ht_1222wt_841). And the sleeves I saw at regionals were also from bakemonogatari, but just Hitagi Senjōgahara instead. So I would like to know what kinds of sleeves are legal for regionals. In sanctioned tournaments, you're supposed to use plain, matt sleeves, as desgined ones are eaiser to mark, iirc

So plain Gold and silver card sleeves won't be legal? (mine are reflective a bit, Player's choice FYI).

Reflective ones can allow you to see the underside of cards when off-center-Resk™ (Talk) 22:00, April 29, 2011 (UTC)

Also, the solid-color ones are more preferable simply because they are a lot easier to shuffle. Especially the kind that everyone buys near me and probably throughout the states.BobaFett2 (talk)

I just buy new sleeves at the event.--Helix-king (talkcontribs) 14:50, April 30, 2011 (UTC)

  • How much do you guys pay for the sleeves at the event(s), I've never been to a tournament before and based on what I've read from this, my sleeves aren't tournament legal because of the artwork at the back. I paid $4.00 for mine and it is called "Elemental Mistress".  :)

Tournaments are usually at stores, so it's whatever the store charges. Usually about 3-5 dollars.BobaFett2 (talk)

  • I have "100" plain light blue reflective sleeves with no artwork at all, are they legal in tournaments? Sorry for asking such a simple question, but I would like to be in a tournament at least once when I get the oppurtunity too. I just have to clean them because some of them have smudges on it.

Also, does it matter if I use the ones that aren't specifically designed for Yu-Gi-Oh! cards? My 2 "Elemental Mistress" card sleeves come in "universal size" and "Yu-Gi-Oh!" size. All of my "Plain" ones are "Yu-Gi-Oh! sized.

It doesn't matter but it's easier to get a "bend" in large protectors on small cards (which can be used to cheat).BobaFett2 (talk)

Thank you very much "BobaFett2", I accidentally picked up the "universal" size by mistake and will now know better than to use "universal" sized sleeves. It's a shame too, because the "Elemental Mistress" artwork is awesome. The woman still looks HOT but is almost fully clothed. I wish that tournaments allowed sleeves with artwork to be used, although I understand the reason they don't permit it(cheating).

Basicly, if it's shiny or patteren'd, people will be able to complain that they -could- be used for cheating,-Resk™ (Talk) 22:35, April 30, 2011 (UTC)

Opaque sleeves are the best in my opinion. Of course the backing is opaque, lol. In tournaments is the only place where the type of sleeves you use make a difference. Any solid color sleeves from Ultra Pro or Player's Choice are good options. "Worn" sleeves aren't allowed in official tourneys and ones with designs on the back aren't either. But hey in casual play, play with whatever sleeves you want, i dont care! In tournaments, yes it does matter.
