What have you seen in your dueling experience?

This is a page for the stupidest moves you've ever seen or those stupid moves that you see too much. Inspired by Jason Grabher-Meyer's new article on TCGplayer.com "Mid-Format Misplay Menagerie!".

Stupidest Plays Ever Made

Here, just for fun, we'll compile a list of the most ridiculous plays each of us have seen (or done).

If there is already a post about this, never mind.

Misplays Everyday

Here, the most important part, We'll compile a list of misplays we see all the time.

I'll start with some common ones and ones that Jason himself mentioned in his great article.

The Classic Mystical Waste Typhoon

Like Jason said, why ever use Mystical Space Typhoon when there are multiple backrows set? We see this happen all the time for no good reason. The solution? Bait out their backrow first. If they have a single backrow left and you have the edge/want to make a big move, yes, definitely use your MST. Otherwise, save that MST for possible face-up threats like Royal Decree, Royal Oppression, and Gravity Bind. However, randomly blowing up a backrow with a precious MST (we only get 2) is not the way to go and really doesn't make sense...

What makes even less sense?

Using up an MST on a random backrow (let's say the opponent has multiple backrows set) THEN, activating Giant Trunade right after. I swear I've seen this happen 3 times in a single local tournament (someone did this to me). Why blow up that random backrow when it's going to be removed this turn anyways?! It's a -1 (99% of the time!)

Lesson - use Mystical Space Typhoon conservatively.

Fallen Judgment/Warning

I personally don't use either of these two cards in any of my builds (reasons: expensive prices, risky cost). Instead, I use alternatives if applicable (ex: Flamvell Counter or Pollinosis). Summarizing what Jason said, save these to counter game-breaking plays, not minor plays. It's scary to lose 2000-4000 life points...lose it for a good reason.

"It's always awesome to contact-fuse 3 Glads!"

I know this is very specific, but many of you probably know what I'm talking about. We see it all the time. Gladiator Beast players have the priviledge to do anything they want with a single monster just by attacking...but they sometimes get over-confident about their versatile monsters. Many times more than once, I've seen GB players fuse their monsters into a Gladiator Beast Heraklinos with out any cards in hand. Heraklinos is not used to show off or eat face. It's used to lock down and end it for good when you're already ahead of them (I think!). Lastly, it's a permanent commitment (no tagging-out!) and a possible -3! I'm not an experienced GB player, so if an actual pro duelist with a GB deck would like to extend upon this particular misplay, feel free!

There ends today's commonly seen misplays. I'll post some more when I think of them or they happen! Please comment, contribute and get involved. Thanks! --Flamekeeper (talkcontribs) 06:03, November 9, 2010 (UTC)

i've seen people bottomless D.D. Survivor

i once saw someone who negated Upstart Goblin with Dark Bribe

i once saw someone using heavy storm after he saw the opponents Starlight Road a turn bevore (light effect from Clear World)

the same player cleared the opponents field with brionac (discarding all his cards) and attacked while he must have known of the gorz in the opponents hand -dest- (talkcontribs) 18:24, November 9, 2010 (UTC)

Someone trying to Trap Hole A Wetlands XD. He saw the 1200 in the card text and without thinking he activated trap hole. Most epic move ever. Jens (talkcontribs) 21:06, November 9, 2010 (UTC)

Carelessly attacking face-downs. I've seen someone attack a face-down with a power-bonded Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem. Face-down turned out to be Amazoness Swords Woman. I just couldn't help but laugh at this point. Also, someone attacking a face-down with Stardust Dragon/Assault Mode since he feels invincible, because you know, he has a walking Solemn Judgment... the face-down D.D. Assailant begged to differ. No One Special (talkcontribs) 21:33, November 9, 2010 (UTC)

Um... you know, the effect of Stardust Assault DOES negate D.D. Assailant.
It would, but when the attack was declared, a trap which prevented Stardust Dragon/Assault Mode from tributing itself was activated, and the turn player chose not to respond (he didn't think it was a tribute, but rather a normal send). Mentioning that little detail makes it sound less epic :( Anyway, you wouldn't happen to know the name of that trap, would you? I believe it had "Restrict" in its name.
Mask of Restrict. And THAT'S an epic misplay. Runer5h (talkcontribs) 23:29, November 10, 2010 (UTC)Runer5h
For a more subtle misplay, missing an opportunity to win. You have a Caius in hand, a monster on the field, you haven't used your normal summon, AND your opponent has 1000 LP or less? Tribute summon Caius, and have it remove itself for the burn! Runer5h (talkcontribs) 21:52, November 9, 2010 (UTC)Runer5h

People keep using Solemn Judgment on my Scrap Dragon >.> (Destoyed! revivie golem, revivie goblin, Dragon!)-Resk (talkcontribs) 02:19, November 11, 2010 (UTC)

Umm... if they Solemn the summon of Scrap Dragon, its effect doesn't activate, since it wasn't considered to be technically on-field. Runer5h (talkcontribs) 02:58, November 11, 2010 (UTC)Runer5h
It doesn't declare field to grave, it declares 'Destroyed & sent to grave' like L&D dragon-Resk (talkcontribs) 03:08, November 11, 2010 (UTC)
Also, because it's me "If an effect like "Solemn Warning" or "Royal Oppression" negates the the Synchro Summon of "Voltic Bicorn" or "Lightning Tricorn" or "Scrap Dragon" and destroys it, then you can activate the monster's effect.[5]" from his rulings page :p-Resk (talkcontribs) 03:14, November 11, 2010 (UTC)
Oh, that's news to me!
The more you know... Runer5h (talkcontribs) 03:21, November 11, 2010 (UTC)Runer5h
