The lore in Swap Frog says: "You can discard 1 WATER monster to Special Summon this card from your hand."

The lore in Mermail Abyssmegalo says:"You can discard 2 other WATER monsters to the Graveyard; Special Summon this card from your hand."

So basically, the two are costs to special summon those monsters.

Then, in the rulings of Atlantean Marksman says: "Since the card discarded from the hand to the Graveyard for "Swap Frog" to Special Summon itself is not treated as being sent to the Graveyard to activate the effect of a WATER monster, the effect of the "Atlantean Marksman" discarded from the hand to Special Summon "Swap Frog" will not activate."

So I'm guessing that if I discard two Atlantean Dragoons from my hand to spceial summon Abyssmegalo their effects won't activate right?

Because it has the same lore that Marksman: "When this card is sent to the Graveyard to activate a WATER monster's effect:"

It's all in the wording. Atlantean monsters activate when the effect that discards them as a cost specifically mentions the cards are sent to the Graveyard. "Swap Frog" only says to "discard one monster", while "Mermail Abyssmegalo" says to "discard 2 other WATER monsters to the Graveyard", so it activates the effects of Atlanteans. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 17:30, November 14, 2012 (UTC)
So basically, if I have Dimensional Fissure on the field, Abyssmegalo cannot be summoned because they need to be sent to the graveyard.Jaggo 80 (talkcontribs) 17:34, November 14, 2012 (UTC)
You got it, dude. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 17:39, November 14, 2012 (UTC)
No, it's not because of that. Abyssmegalo's is an effect, while Swap Frog's is a Summon condition. Atlanteans have to be sent to the Graveyard to activate an effect. Swap Frog's Summoning condition isn't treated as an effect. With the new text, since Abyssmegalo has a semi-colon, you can clearly tell that it's an effect that activates, not a condition. But the discard is still treated as a cost, only this time to activate an ignition effect, since you can't pay the cost to activate the Ignition effect, you can't summon. With the new problem solving card text, a semi-colon can be used to separate costs as well. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 00:31, November 15, 2012 (UTC)
That's what I meant. "To activate an effect" means the monster has to be sent to the Graveyard as part of paying the cost for that effect. Swap Frog's isn't treated as an effect, even though they work similarly. MadRest 01:08, November 15, 2012 (UTC)
