Forum:Remove a ruling from Magical Citadel of Endymion

I believe that a certain ruling put on Magical Citadel of Endymion should be removed because its effect can, in fact, save itself when your opponent activates another field spell card by removing a spell counter and negating the activation of your opponents field spell card.User:Nightshroud89 03:16, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

The ruling about another field spells is legit. Magical City can only save itself from destruction by an EFFECT, not by the game mechanic of only having 1 active field spell. — This unsigned comment was made by 68.49.138.44 (talkcontribs) 03:19, 29 April 2009

But the card doesnt say if it would be destroyed by a card effect, it only says if it would be destroyed. If another field spell would be activated, then citadel will be destroyed, this should mean we can use its effect of removing a spell counter to prevent its destruction. — This unsigned comment was made by 207.6.230.20 (talkcontribs) 07:46, 29 April 2009

No card can prevent itself from being destroyed by game mechanics.
For example, consider "Magic Reflector", whose text only says "destroyed" and not "destroyed by a card effect":

If a Field Spell Card has a counter on it and a player activates a new Field Spell Card, the Field Spell Card with the counter is still destroyed.

I totally agree with the first and third poster about the citadel being able to save itself from another field being activated. It clearly does not say by a card EFFECT not to mention the newest edition of the 5D's rulebook specifically states when a new field is activated the existing one is DESTROYED, not sent to the graveyard, a key phrase on the Citadel's condition for saving itself. This much like the toon world loop hole with emergency provisions and giant trunade is just another exploit and follows the precedence of other similar strategies like the aforementioned one about toon world. So there is no reason why it cannot prevent another field from destroying it. — This unsigned comment was made by 166.137.133.152 (talkcontribs) 15:11, December 8, 2009

Again, effects cannot prevent cards from being destroyed by game mechanics/conditions. See "Magic Reflector". Also see "Imperial Custom" vs maintenance costs. --Deus Ex Machina (Talk) 19:49, December 8, 2009 (UTC)
