Forum:Reveal Timing on Pot of Duality

I revealed the top three cards of my deck using Pot of Duality and added one to my hand. My friend said he didn't see what card I added to my hand and so I then had to reveal that card a second time. His specific claim was that whenever a card says something along the lines of 'add 1 ... to your hand', that somewhere in the rulebook it says that card must always be announced or revealed a second time. Would I have had to show him my card? Mind you, I did not do any quick-reveal nonsense. He had plenty of time to see the cards when I first revealed them. –PatPeter 18:03, January 4, 2012 (UTC)

I do not know of any such rule, but I typically announce and specifically reveal the card I add to my hand after I make my selection. NOT while I choose the card. If your opponent does not remember what card you added to your hand, and does not know its effects, you are not obligated to re-reveal it. So take the extra precaution and announce only the card you added to your hand, and only reveal specific aspects of the card like whether its warrior type or level 8 or something if the card specifies that it has to be warrior type and level 8 or something. If he doesn't remember after that, that's really his problem, you know? Don't bother showing him cards other than the card you added to your hand. Oh, rereading your words gave me an idea of what he was trying to say. You only need to reveal cards after a deck/grave search to confirm that you're telling the truth about them. Your opponent really only needs to know that you're telling the truth, so as long as he sees that one of the cards you revealed with Pot of Duality was added to your hand, and 2 went back to the deck, then that's as far as he needs to know. Other examples are the ones I mentioned earlier, like when using Terraforming or Reinforcemnt of the Army. Aeron Solo wuz here (If you wanna talk) 18:39, January 4, 2012 (UTC)
You are mostly right with your answer, however, to clarify, if the opponent asks the effect of the card when you reveal it, you are obliged to reveal the effect of the card, so if the opponent doesn't know the effect you have to tell them. You also have to reveal all 3 cards to the opponent and can only shuffle them back into your deck and add one to your hand after your opponent has confirmed that they are done looking. After this, though, you do not have to re-reveal the card you added as they confirmed they were finished --2.100.10.105 (talk) 21:49, January 6, 2012 (UTC)

I play on Dueling Network, so I either mill to graveyard or mill to RFG. I cannot really 'reveal', so I put the card in my hand a few seconds after I've milled. Would that still fall within the bounds of what you're saying? –PatPeter 06:17, January 8, 2012 (UTC)

You should ask the opponent if they're finished checking them, however since it's dueling network and some people aren't very talkative, I'm sure its fine to just add it to your hand. Especially since the card will stay revealed on the left for them to read it's effect if you add it to your hand after sending the other two to the deck. --89.243.181.72 (talk) 22:30, January 9, 2012 (UTC)
Most of the time when I see them resolved the effect of Duality; they usually pick 1 of three and added it then return other two cards to the deck. In that way, the last card would be the one that returned to the deck, not to hand. --FredCat 16:41, January 10, 2012 (UTC)
