Forum:Summoning Effects and resolving those effects

I wanted some clarification on how "when this card is summoned" effects would work... So imma paint a picture for you to better understand my question. I just attacked and detroyed my opponents blue eyes white dragon and in response my opponent activates the effect of "deep-eyes white dragon" from the hand. Which special summons him to the field and thus begins his effects of doing damage to my lifepoints based off the amount of dragons in his graveyard and selecting a monster to copy his attack. Now my question is if i were to active say.. "Floodgate trap hole" immediately after he was special summoned and flipped him into face down defense position that would mean that neither of his effects would be able to activate correct? It really depends on how the effects are worded. For example, in your case, the damaging effect doesn't activate per se, because it is the same effect as the self-Summoning one, that is once it is Summoned the damage is dealt instantly. At this point "If/When X is Summoned" effects trigger, with the ones that are mandatory having absolute priority, followed by optional ones that start with "If", and lastly optional ones that start with "When", iirc. So, Deep-Eyes always attempts to gain ATK first, then Floodgate can be chained. Since chained effects are resolved in reverse order of activation, Floodgate resolves first putting it face-down, then since youcan't change the stats of a face-down card, Depp-Eyes' ATK gian effect resolves without doing anything. --XBrain130™エックスブレーン130」 22:01, December 10, 2017 (UTC)

Ok so one more question just to make sure i got this right. Say "dragon spirit of white" is tribute summoned.. Once he hits the field he targets and banishes a trap or spell. If i floodgated him would the trap that was targeted be destroyed? X1991omega (talkcontribs) 17:47, December 16, 2017 (UTC)

Banished, but yes. Your opponent would need some negation, effect immunity, etc. in order to stop that outcome from occuring. Aeron Solo wuz here (If you wanna talk) 18:02, December 16, 2017 (UTC)
