Forum:Summoning Mechanics

  • I have seen many cards that have certain summoning conditions, and some of those are able to be overridden by another card. So when a card says "Ignoring summoning conditions", if that monster hasn't been summoned by its listed effect, how is that a game mechanic and not a condition? Mainly my question is for the card Rainbow Gravity, which allows for the summon from the deck, but according to mechanics, cannot be done because it hasn't been properly summoned first, and by being in the deck, that condition has yet to be met. The ruling also says that if it wasn't summoned properly and is the grave, Gravity cannot summon it, even though it ignores the condition, not a mechanic. Why? Same with Level Up!. • If a monster that was first properly Special Summoned is in the Graveyard it can be Special summoned. If that monster is returned to the hand or Deck and then the "first properly Special Summoned" condition is reset, so if the same monster is sent to the Graveyard again (without being properly Special Summoned again), then it cannot be Special Summoned. So a monster in the graveyard, in order to be summoned, needs that condition to be met. If the condition does been met, the monster cannot be SS from the Graveyard. In the Deck (or hand) that condition doesn't exist so it can be SS anyway. I don't know if that helped! ATEMVEGETA (Talk) 20:28, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
It is a game mechanic that such a monster cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard unless it was properly Special Summoned beforehand. "Rainbow Gravity" does not ignore game mechanics.
There is no game mechanic preventing you from Special Summoning a monster from the Deck. Anything that prevents that is a Summoning Condition.

  • The best example of this are the Busters, if for some reason it gets put into the grave from the deck or discarded you cannot special summon it with anything, even with Assault Revival even though it ignores summoning requirements as well because it wasn't put there from summoning it the correct way first. Deus, how is that a mechanic and not a condition? Messengerofthedark 14:50, 19 June 2009 (UTC)Mesengerofthedark
The "revival restriction" has been ruled to be a game mechanic. Everything else has received no such ruling, so they are Summon Conditions.
Kartheon, it is the same thing: "Assault Revival" ignores Summon Conditions, but it does not ignore game mechanics. It cannot ignore that the "/Assault Mode" monster must be properly Special Summoned beforehand. The same applies to "Rainbow Gravity".
