Forum:Union Monsters Vs. Black Rose Dragon (simultaneous destruction)

I have a rulings question about union monsters. For arguments sake, lets say that Player 1 has Machina Fortress equipped with Machina Gearframe on the field. Player 2 then syncro summons Black Rose Dragon and uses its effect to nuke the field. Would Machina Fortress be saved because of Gearframe's effect or would Black Rose destroy them both?Blueeyes747 (talk • contribs) 01:51, July 27, 2011 (UTC)

In the TCG, it is ruled that if an effect will simultaneously destroy the Union and the Equipped monster, you will not be able to use the effect save the equipped monster. Both will be destroyed.

In the OCG, it is ruled that if both are to be destroyed simultaneously, then the "If the equipped monster would be destroyed, destroy this card instead." effect of the Union monster can be applied. The Union monster will be destroyed instead of the Equipped monster.
