Forum:Your Own Format!

I'm a little sick of the way yugioh is being played. I don't play very competitively, just with my brother and a few friends. They were talking about how they didn't like the crazy special summoning and destruction capabilities of so many cards in a deck. This is understandable, since we're mainly budget duelists.

That being said, I would love to create my own balanced format of budget cards which would not only be competitive and fun, but also teach us more about how to play the game properly. I feel like all of us have room for improvement in the game, and I am trying to create two decks (mirror images of each other) that would force us to make good reads/plays in order to win. (imagine the goat control format, I never played it but apparently it took a lot of skill to win)

Only thing is, I'm kind of lost on how to do this. Here are my criteria for what I'd want from these two decks:

- Forcing players to "set-up" on turns instead of making big plays every turn - having little to no costless destruction cards (I'd rather have mst at 0 or 1 in the decks, and have to use cards like Double Cyclone or Raigeki Break instead. These cards require better judgment with when to use your destruction effects. - I don't want players to be able to over extend - so maybe dark hole's, torrentials, change of hearts to be in the deck too.

Yes, i was partially inspired by the Battle Pack to create my own format and two mirror decks to improve skill.

Here's a list of cards that I think promote good gameplay over luck Exiled Force Torrential Tribute Effect Veiler Double Cyclone Gilasaurus.

That's about all I have. I'd love some help in making these two decks. I don't think just buying two Starter Deck: Xyz Symphony would really do the trick :P Trak0don (talkcontribs) 13:56, May 24, 2012 (UTC)

Maybe only use Duel Terminal cards...And stick to Mega-Banned format? Designless Square (talkcontribs) 16:41, May 24, 2012 (UTC)

one thing that my friends and i have done is take a page from magic the gathering and we would all take about 20 bucks and buy a structure and a couple packs and build a deck out of that. we made sure that you had to use at least 5 to 10 of the cards from the packs and then we went at it and it is actually really fun. The only things I'd ban would be OTKs and FTKs. Some cards would be banned by deck type. Garchomp87 (talkcontribs) 06:21, May 31, 2012 (UTC)

I know that unless the overall quality and promotion of gameplay, a downplay of the powercreep that tends to happen with most things, is demonstrated in newly released cards; a format I run would be excessivly troll/biased and best be avoided.

There'd be all sorts of things from card types (monsters, spells, traps) having one of all on the ban list be banned, one to be only limited and one to be semi limited. (A format where Sixth Sense is still banned; all limited and semi limited traps are also banned for example.)

To having "blocks" like Magic the Gathering has. In other words requiring cards from the era they come from (original, GX, 5D, Zexal) to be used withoutt much influence from others.

Maybe even do something unbeleivably stupid like forcing people to abide to the Booster Pack Rainbow in a similar fashion to the blocks mentioned last (For a time, cards from only blue colored packs and structure decks are allowed for example again.)

Now if more reasonable cards come back around then I'd make a more serious effort in trying to have the game be balanced, affecting proportionately the types of cards things use like a not insane person. Though for that to work, banlists may need to occur in shorter intervals. 96.249.200.162 (talk) 07:23, May 31, 2012 (UTC)
