The Signer Dragons (シグナーの竜 Shigunā no Ryū) are a series of Level 7 and 8 Dragon Synchro Monsters introduced in Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. These legendary dragons play a part in the legend of the Crimson Dragon, as well as being connected to the Signers themselves. That connection being that these legendary beasts, who actually joined forces with the Crimson Dragon, were the ones who sealed an evil within the Nazca Lines.

That very same evil, now known as the "Earthbound Immortals", reappeared once again in the world as Duel Monsters cards used by the Dark Signers.

Every Signer Dragon has been featured in the anime and has been released in the OCG/TCG. They are: "Stardust Dragon", "Red Dragon Archfiend", "Black Rose Dragon", "Ancient Fairy Dragon", "Black-Winged Dragon" and "Life Stream Dragon".

In the anime, Professor Fudo gave the "Stardust Dragon", "Red Dragon Archfiend" and "Black Rose Dragon" cards to Rex Goodwin. These cards were originally designed so that their corresponding Signer could activate the safety switches for the Ener-D system.

Variations
Reflecting the rivalry between the two main characters Yusei Fudo and Jack Atlas, "Stardust Dragon" and "Red Dragon Archfiend" were the only Signer Dragons to have different upgraded versions during the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime. Despite this, "Life Stream Dragon" has a downgraded, armored version, "Power Tool Dragon", which is a required Synchro Material for its Synchro Summon. Eventually, OCG-original upgrades of the other Signer Dragons were released.

Cosmic Synchro Monsters
Cosmic Synchro Monster

These are upgraded forms of "Stardust Dragon" and "Red Dragon Archfiend", characterised by a name centered around a space phenomena. They are not Synchro Summoned in the usual method. "Shooting Star Dragon", for example, is the Accel Synchro evolution of "Stardust Dragon", requiring 1 Tuner Synchro Monster and its base form. Although Jack's new ace monster "Red Nova Dragon" ("Red Dragon Archfiend"'s evolution) is not an Accel Synchro Monster, it uses a method called "Double Tuning" to achieve its evolution and is in the same power range as "Shooting Star". In the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime, to Summon these Synchro Monsters, the user has to perform a specific ability: examples are Clear Mind for "Shooting Star" and "Blazing Soul" for "Red Nova". The ATK of "Shooting Star Dragon" and "Red Nova Dragon" are 500 points less than their base forms' "Majestic" versions, while their DEF is equivalent to their original form's ATK. "Shooting Quasar Dragon" is considered the ultimate peak of the Signer Dragons and all Synchro Monsters.

These monsters have 500 more ATK and DEF, two more Levels and an upgraded effect of the original monsters. Both of these monsters were Special Summoned with the effect of "Assault Mode Activate", and were used Yusei Fudo and Jack Atlas in a [[Evolving Duel! ===Majestic===

Majestic

"Majestic" monsters are upgraded forms of the Signer Dragons, temporarily granted to their users by the Crimson Dragon. "Stardust Dragon" and "Red Dragon Archfiend" are the only Signer Dragons to have been given this power. "Majestic" monster are Summoned by Tuning "Majestic Dragon" with one of the Dragons and one Level 1 non-Tuner monster. They have powerful effects, but, as they are temporary upgrades, they return to the Extra Deck during the End Phase while Special Summoning their base form from the Graveyard.

Malefic
Malefic

"Stardust Dragon" is the only Signer Dragon with a "Malefic" counterpart: "Malefic Stardust Dragon". This card was used in the Yu-Gi-Oh! 3D Bonds Beyond Time movie by Paradox, who stole the original "Stardust Dragon" from Yusei Fudo and transformed it into "Malefic Stardust Dragon".

Synchro Dimension counterparts
In the Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V anime, Jack Atlas' Synchro Dimension counterpart used a new version of "Red Dragon Archfiend": "Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend". This monster appears to be "Red Dragon Archfiend" after it was 'scarred' by "Junk Warrior", thus paying homage to the last episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime. "Scarlight" also possesses an upgraded form: "Tyrant Red Dragon Archfiend".

Duel Dragons
Duel Dragon

In the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's manga, the Signer Dragons do not appear. Instead, a similar series known as the Duel Dragons is featured, and it is used by the modern Duel Priests. Many of them are slightly redesigned Signer Dragons: "Ancient Pixie Dragon", "Black Rose Moonlight Dragon", "Blackfeather Darkrage Dragon", "Hot Red Dragon Archfiend" and "Stardust Spark Dragon". There is no Duel Dragon counterpart of "Life Stream Dragon"; "Power Tool Mecha Dragon" appears instead. All the Duel Dragons and their variations have been released in the TCG/OCG.

Playing style
There are various kinds of playing styles for each dragon, especially "Stardust Dragon" and "Red Dragon Archfiend". All of the dragons (except "Life Stream Dragon") have no specific Summoning conditions, making them easy to Synchro Summon, so they can be used in almost any Extra Deck.

Trivia
+
The Five Dragons are a series of cards, introduced in Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. They play a part in the legend of the Crimson Dragon and the Signers. Each of the five Signers possess one of the Five Dragons. As of now, all four of the "Five Dragons" are Synchro Monsters.
* The initial Signer Dragons ("Stardust Dragon", "Red Dragon Archfiend", "Black Rose Dragon", "Power Tool Dragon", and "Ancient Fairy Dragon") were all designed by Kazuki Takahashi. Takahashi's illustrations also included an early concept of "Life Stream Dragon", albeit one that differed considerably from the final version.

* In the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime, despite the fact that "Stardust Dragon", "Ancient Fairy Dragon", "Red Dragon Archfiend", "Black Rose Dragon", and "Life Stream Dragon" fought against the "Earthbound Immortals" in the past, the Crimson Dragon did not awaken the true form of "Life Stream Dragon" in the present when Leo was Dueling against Devack (the Dark Signer with Earthbound Immortal Cusillu, the same one it had defeated 5000 years prior).

* In the anime, creating perfect new copies of the Signer Dragons seemed to be impossible - when Paradox stole Yusei's "Stardust Dragon" by absorbing its spirit into a blank card, the resulting copy was a black-bordered card with a mirrored image, something that was not observed in any of the other cards that Paradox copied. The hologram of the monster, however, was left unaltered. In contrast, the card copies of "Red Dragon Archfiend" that Lester created were identical to the real card, but the holograms of the monsters itself had yellow, purple, and teal color schemes, instead of the red one of the original.

* The Signer Dragons that were used by male Signers are Level 8, while those used by female Signers are Level 7.

* DARK is the only Attribute represented by more than one Signer Dragon ("Red Dragon Archfiend" and "Black-Winged Dragon"), while WATER and DIVINE are the only Attributes not represented by any of them ("Stardust Dragon" is WIND, "Black Rose Dragon" is FIRE, "Ancient Fairy Dragon" is LIGHT, and "Life Stream Dragon" is EARTH).

* "Ancient Fairy Dragon" is currently the only Signer Dragon without any upgraded counterpart.
