An '''Overlay Network''' (オーバーレイ・ネットワーク ''Ōbārei Nettowāku'') is a portal created as part of an [[Xyz Summon]] in the ''[[Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL]]'' anime and [[Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL (manga)|manga]] series.
Most [[Xyz Monster]]s, with some exceptions like the "[[Number]]s", are Xyz Summoned through a red, spiraling spiral-shaped portal. The [[Xyz Material]]s then become orbs of light which orbit the Xyz Monster. When [[detach]]ed, the Xyz Monster absorbs the orb(s) in a certain way, varying between different monsters.
When However, several Xyz Monsters use unique or specially designed Overlay Networks with a different color and/or shape. In particular, when a "Number" [[Monster Card|monster]] is Xyz Summoned, the Overlay Network appears as a spaceyellow galaxy-themed like portal appears into which the Xyz Materials are drawn into as energy streaks. The portal explodes, and the sealed form of the [[Summon]]ed "Number" appears, before transforming itself into its true form. However, some "Number" monsters, such as "[[Number 88: Gimmick Puppet of Leo]]" and "[[Number 33: Chronomaly Machu Mech]]" do not have sealed forms; in their case, they simply emerge from the Overlay Network. Also, "[[Number 9: Dyson Sphere]]" does not emerge from the Overlay Network, but materializes in space. In ''[[Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Tag Force 6]]'', all Xyz Monsters depicted as using the standard red spiral portal.
