Archetype condition

202 bytes added, 10 years ago
"Condition Effect" is a misnomer anyway; they have never been officially referred to as such and are by definition not effects and unnegatable (those that are effects and can be negated are Unclassified Effects)
An archetype condition is a condition (that cannot be negated) that specifies the card as is a member of an archetype even though when the card's name suggests otherwisedoes not. Most occurrences are on non-Japanese prints of cards where the card's name was translated before the archetype was established; the most obvious common usages are on various old "Archfiend" cards such as "Summoned Skull" and "Axe of Despair" where for which the name is well-established and it would not be appropriate to rename the card.
On non-Japanese cards, archetype conditions are listed in parentheses at the start of the card text (but after Materials) on a separate line from the rest of the card text for all cards except non-Effect Monsters, on which they are listed at the bottom of the card description box. On Japanese cards, archetype conditions are listed at the start of the card text, but still as part of the main body and not in parentheses.
Archetype conditions are very similar to permanently treated as alternate name conditions.
