Nomination

I'm nominating myself. I'd love to be able to help out the wiki more actively in terms of vandalism and spam, which is always frustrating, and working on some maintenance stuff that I've been doing. BF2 Talk Deck Guides 18:45, August 24, 2011 (UTC)

Questions for the candidate

Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve as an administrator. Please answer the following four questions to provide guidance for participants:

1. What administrative work do you intend to take part in?
A: Moving Files, deleting pages, blocking vandals.
2. What do you consider to be your best contributions, and why?
A: I've worked hard and fixed most of the grammar and MOS stuff on almost every archetype's page.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A: Yes, I've been in conflicts with the well-known User:SynjoDeonecros. I dealt with it rather poorly, but I plan to deal with conflicts by removing myself in the future.
4. Do you regularly contribute to any other wikis? Are you an administrator or bureaucrat on any of them, or do you have accounts with similar roles on forums, blogs, etc.? Could you provide links, if so?
A: I used to regularly contribute to | Brickipedia] as an administrator.

Other editors may post optional questions for the candidate here.

5. In what ways do you feel you have improved since your last request?

I have gained more knowledge of the game, gotten a more in-depth understanding of the wiki's policies, and met more users.

6. What is the purpose of a cool-down block and when should one be used?

A cool down block is a temporary block that you place on a user when they are acting inappropriately.

7. When is an indefinite/infinite IP block appropriate?

An indefinite block is appropriate when the user/IP in question is repeatedly vandalizing, spamming, flaming, or other offenses, and has already received multiple warnings, or when a user has an inappropriate nickname.

8. What pages do you plan on deleting? Which of them can be deleted on the spot and what steps are necessary before deleting ones that can't be deleted on the spot?

I plan on deleting spam pages that I find in the Recent Changes and certain deck types that are just personal decks. Certain deck pages would require a check to make sure that they aren't a commonly used deck type.

9. What types of pages can and can't be deleted on request of the person who started them?

Forums can be deleted at the request of a user (or so I believe). You can also delete user subpages if the user that created it requests that they be deleted. You can't delete articles (with the exception of spam articles).

10. How come you use an un-subst'd signature template and don't timestamp your signatures?

I use that because on another wiki I have a signature with quite a bit more code than it needs to have and they have a Nosubst template, which doesn't exist here (the template allows me to sign without all the code appearing on the page). I've gotten around to fixing it, so now I'll leave a timestamp.

11. Apart from grammar and other clean-up, are there any articles you feel you have significantly improved?

Well, I've improved most deck pages by removing cards that are staples or not very good and adding in cards that better support the deck type.

Oppose

  • I apologise for opposing again. Boba is a nice guy and I've had the pleasure of getting to know him on the IRC channel. To review some of the answers:
    • 1: It seems like a straightforward question, but it's actually quite difficult to give a good answer. Listing some of the tools is easy. It's like saying you plan on teaching people in a interview to be a teacher. The answer isn't wrong, but to impress other editors you should aim to give something that shows you have a deep understanding of the role and that there is particular work you plan on doing that would make you a good asset, ideally backed up by similar edits you have already made. (In fact you should aim to do this in most answers.)
    • 2 and 11: Again the answers aren't wrong, but these questions should be taken as a chance to sell yourself. Things like grammar cleanup are done by a lot of editors and doesn't take a huge amount of skill. Try to pick something that makes you really stand out.
    • 6: "Acting inappropriately" can have many different meanings. A cool down block is one intended specifically to calm down a user who is angry. These should almost never be used, unless the user is also being disruptive.
    • 7: IPs aren't guaranteed to only ever be used by the one user, so infinite is almost never used.
    • 9: In my opinion, if a forum has had multiple commenters, it shouldn't be deleted just because the original poster wants it gone, since you're also erasing other people's work.

Could you fill in the accept section at the top of the page? (Even though it's a self-nomination, so you obviously accept.) Same with the blurb section. --Deltaneos (talk) 13:06, August 24, 2011 (UTC)
