Revision as of 22:50, 14 May 2012

Seeing as the poll ended up in a stalemate (Vote to correct this after this Contest), me and BF2 decided to do a contest revolving around Return of the Duelist cards. The only main requirement(s) for the decks are creativity, fun, and they must use some cards from REDU to support their strategy.

Guidelines

  • All OCG and TCG are fine, as long as it has an effect.
  • This contest will be in March 1st, 2012 Banlist.
  • You may not add/remove any decks from the Registration Area.
  • You will be given maybe 1 day if you are late to post, after that, you're out.
  • The deck post up date is May 16th, 2012.

Registration

We will accept 2 contestants per deck.

Example of Registration

Lightsworns aren't being used in this contest.

The new ROCK/EARTH support cards are as follows:

Not all these cards should be used in the deck, but these cards must provide/do something important in the deck they are used in. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 23:57, May 6, 2012 (UTC)

I think you should announce the contestants that theres a new Contest :) 33royward (talkcontribs) 12:39, May 7, 2012 (UTC)

Gaia Plate used Rock Slide! Critical hit! It's super effective! The opponent flinched and couldn't move!

This Deck's focuses on summoning Gaia Plate the Earth Giant, either by loading up the Graveyard for its proper Summon requirement, or the standard dump-and-revive tactic. Sandcloud Knight is a very nice opening monster, having a Flip Effect that lets me mill any EARTH monster. Naturally, first to go will be Gaia Plate. Sandcloud itself isn't a Rock, which slightly hinders his function in a Gaia Plate Deck which wants as many Rocks as possible.

Being a mostly-Rock Deck, the Rock Stun Trio definitely fit in here. They are easily maintained, fare well in battle, and can counter almost anything the opponent attempts to pull. Even if the opponent tries to smash their face in, Rock Launch Area can keep them on the field while also aiding the whole milling process. Koa'ki Meiru Boulder is also thrown in to search for any Trio member which might be needed.

While the Deck has a few means of filling the Graveyard, there are also methods of reducing Graveyard count to pave the way for Earth Spirit God - Grand Soil to be summoned. Aside from Gaia Plate himself banishing Rocks as maintenance cost, Block Golem can Tribute itself to Special Summon 2 LV4 or lower Rocks from the Grave, thus setting up for a Rank 4 Xyz monster and reducing the total monster count by 1. If I need extra turns for Gaia Plate, Burial from a Different Dimension can restock 3 banished monsters to buy extra time.

The Extra Deck lineup is pretty standard. Number 39: Utopia gives beating power and an attack negation ability. Fairy King Alverd weakens non-EARTHs in case the weaker monsters need to take something down. Number 50: Black Corn eats pesky walls. Steelswarm Roach makes the opponent stumble over their own (Semi) Nomis or Synchros. Lavalval Chain can pitch in on setting up the Graveyard or rigging the next draw. If I want to, I can use Grand Soil's Monster Reborn ability to fish out Gaia Plate (or an opponent's LV8 monster) to instantly form a Rank 8 Xyz. The stellar ATK makes for a good finisher, while Giant Killer can slay any opposing Xyz the opponent dares to pull out.

There isn't much to say about the S/T lineup here, maybe except for Forbidden Lance. Its main purpose is to ensure that Gaia Plate can weather any S/T that dares to stand up against it. Since its effect practically lets it win any battle by auto-Shrinking the other monster, the 800 ATK reduction doesn't affect Gaia Plate much, since the opposing monster still needs 4000 ATK or DEF to just tie with it.

As much as I wanted to squeeze in Giant God of the Silver Summit, I simply can't find enough LV3 monsters to fit with the Deck theme. Win some, lose some, I suppose.

Once Gaia Plate is out and well-defended, there's little the opponent can do to stop it. Everything in its way simply keels over and dies. And the opponent can do nothing but flinch as it effortlessly does its work. And on a personal note, I really prefer Rock Slide over Stone Edge. --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 14:45, May 14, 2012 (UTC)
