- An easy way to Synchro Summon this card would be to Summon "Deep Sea Diva" and then use its ability to Special Summon a Level 3 monster like "Mermaid Archer" or "Spined Gillman".
- This card works well in an "Umi"/WATER deck, as most monsters in the deck will be Level 3 due to "Umi"'s effect, so this card's effect can be activated often.
- Use "Ancient Gear Cannon" to make "Sea Dragon Lord Gishilnodon" pump up to 3000 ATK and then, not only can no Traps be activated but your opponent takes 500 damage from "Ancient Gear Cannon"'s effect.
- Activate "Share the Pain" and Tribute a low-level monster, eliminating an enemy monster in the process. If your opponent's monsters are all Level 3 or lower, you can use any monster and still get the effect.
- Combo "Golden Flying Fish" and "Deepsea Macrotrema" with this card. Use "Golden Flying Fish" to tribute "Macrotrema", destroying a card. "Gishilnodon" will pump to 3000 since "Macrotrema" went to the grave, and then "Macrotrema" makes it pump to 3500. Plus, all of your other face-up WATER monsters will gain 500 ATK as well.
- This card can be used in an Infernity, Morphtronic or Blackwing deck. Since many cards in the previous archetypes support Synchro Summons, there is a high chance that this card's effect would be triggered.
- "Lost Blue Breaker" works well with this card. Tribute it to destroy a Spell or Trap, then "Sea Dragon Lord Gishilnodon" has 3000 ATK for the turn.
- If this card is sent to the Graveyard, you can summon it with the effect of "Slushy".
