- If "Total Defense Shogun" attacks while in Defense Position, it is unaffected by "Mirror Force" because "Mirror Force" only destroys monsters in Attack Position. Pretty much the same idea holds true for "Spider Web", as being already in Defense Mode, it won't be changed if it attacks.
- This card also works well with (or against) "Level Limit - Area B" as it can still attack since "Area B" only switches monsters to Defense Position, not prevent them from attacking. However, this won't work against "Gravity Bind".
- Use "Weapon Change" or "Shield & Sword" for a strong attack while in Defense Position, then you'll be still safe on your next turn.
- Obviously very splashable in warrior deck and also considering how popular "Mirror Force" is to have.
- While using "Total Defense Shogun" to stall against the opponent's monsters; load him up with equip cards until he is strong enough to fight.
- "Chorus of Sanctuary" is a great card to use with this monster.
- Equip this card with "Shooting Star Bow - Ceal" and other equip cards to continually attack your opponent's Life Points while simultaneously protecting yours.
- Many equip cards like "Big Bang Shot", "Axe of Despair" and "Black Pendant" only increase Attack. Pay attention and you can find some that also increase Defense. This could protect this card while in Defense, and may show to be a nasty shock when the opponent thinks you messed up. Some equip cards that do this would be "United We Stand", "Mage Power", "Horn of the Unicorn" and "Sword of Deep-Seated".
- This card can be special summoned from your deck through the effect of "Chaos-End Master".
- "Magnum Shield" is a good Equip Card to use with this card. It works well while it's in Attack Position and in Defense Position to have a solid wall or a solid attacker, based on what you need at the time.
- "Spike Shield with Chain" Is also a great card that works with Shogun, as it will gain 500 Attack, plus another 1550 points when it battles another monster in Defense Position during the damage calculation, attacking or being attacked.
