- This card is recommended to be used in a Blue-Eyes Deck, a Red-Eyes Deck, or any Dragon-type deck that uses high level dragons like Felgrand Dragon.
- This card makes a great combo with Masked Dragon since you can search out Totem Dragon with it. Then you can tribute it for a bigger monster during your turn such as Tyrant Dragon.
- This is a good card to have in your graveyard late game. That way, if you draw a high level monster and you have no monsters to tribute for it, Totem Dragon can keep it from turning into a dead draw.
- This card can be special summoned with the effect of Debris Dragon. That way, you can still have a monster on the field when you Special Summon this card and you won't have to remove Totem Dragon from play. Plus, you can use it for the Synchro Summon of a level six monster like Iron Chain Dragon.
- If "Totem Dragon" is in the Graveyard and no monsters on your field during your Standby Phase, Special Summon it, then remove it from play to special summon "Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon", then use Red-Eyes' ability to special summon "Chthonian Emperor Dragon" from your hand or Graveyard.
- This is a great card to have in the graveyard after using an effect like Black Rose Dragon. That way, fewer cards will be on the opponents field next turn if you use this card to summon out a big dragon like Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon or Tyrant Dragon.
- This card works excellent in Dragon Revival Decks as it can combo with Card of Safe Return and Felgrand Dragon.
- This card works well with Imperial Iron Wall active. When it leaves the field, it'll just go back to the graveyard since it cannot be removed, enabling it to be reused over and over during your future Standby Phases.
- You can send this card and The White Stone of Legend with Future Fusion to Fusion Summon Five-Headed Dragon in 2 turns. This will put a copy of Blue-Eyes White Dragon in your hand from your Deck. Then, you can Special Summon a copy of this card from your Graveyard and Tribute it for Blue-Eyes. By sending 2 copies of this card and 3 White Stones with Future Fusion, you will thin 8 cards out of your Deck and have a 3000-ATK monster on your side of the field all from 1 card.
- This card can speed up Yamata Dragon's Summon.
- When this card removes itself from play after using its own ability, you can use D.D.R. - Different Dimension Reincarnation to bring it back to the field next turn, use it to tribute summon another Dragon, and put Totem Dragon back into the graveyard for later use.
- This card makes Overwhelm easier to use since it won't be as hard to tribute summon a level 7 or higher Dragon monster.
- With Imperial Iron Wall, this card makes a great replacement for Quillbolt Hedgehog in the Quillbolt Loop. Mass Driver is the most recommended card to use for Totem Dragon.
