- The name "Ruby Carbuncle" is a double pun, since Carbuncle is also a type of gemstone, as well as a mythical creature, alleged to be seen in Latin America. Legends say the Carbuncle has some sort of jewel on its head.
- It may also refer to a skin condition of the same name, which is a boil that bursts and leaks with pus. In an analogous sense, that is similar to the ruby (carbuncle) that breaks and reveals the monster when this monster is Summoned in the anime.
- "Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle" appears in the artwork of the following cards:
- This monster has an "Advanced Crystal Beast" counterpart: "Advanced Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle".
- This card's name and appearance are similar to that of Carbuncle, a recurring summon in the "Final Fantasy" game series, in where Carbuncle is also known by its Ruby.
- In Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 2, this monster can be seen jumping on the lower right hand corner of the loading screen.
- This card is one of two "Crystal Beast" monsters whose Attribute is neither EARTH nor WIND; the other being "Crystal Beast Emerald Tortoise".
