- This card was designed by Kazuki Takahashi himself.
- This monster appears to be the antithesis of "Stardust Dragon". Their poses mirror each other and have opposite color schemes. Also their effects oppose each other as well. "Stardust Dragon" focuses on protecting monsters from being destroyed, as this card's effect focuses on destroying opposing monsters.
- The fact that these two cards rival each other is a possible reference to the original Yu-Gi-Oh! series; "Blue-Eyes White Dragon", the signature card of Seto Kaiba, with ATK equal to that of "Red Dragon Archfiend", is the rival of "Dark Magician", the signature card of Yugi Muto, with ATK equal to that of "Stardust Dragon". Also, Seto Kaiba and Yugi Muto are rivals, just as Jack Atlas and Yusei Fudo are rivals.
- This monster has an upgraded Version named "Red Nova Dragon".
- This card's Japanese name, "Red Demon's Dragon", may have acted as foreshadowing to this since the true form of "Red Nova Dragon" is the "Red Nova" Demon.
- Red Dragon Archfiend (Red Demon's Dragon) bears a name similar to B. Skull Dragon (Black Demon's Dragon). Both cards are also demon themed with horns.
- This cards ATK is the same as "Blue-Eyes White Dragon", "VWXYZ-Dragon Catapult Cannon", "Armed Dragon LV10", "Destiny End Dragoon" and "Ancient Gear Golem", the key cards of the rivals from previous Yu-Gi-Oh! series, Seto Kaiba, Chazz Princeton, Aster Phoenix and Vellian Crowler respectively. Jack Atlas, the owner of this card, is also a rival of Yusei Fudo, the protagonist of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's.
- This card's effect of destroying other monsters when it attacks is similar to the effect of "Ancient Dragon".
