  • "Nyan Nyan" (にゃんにゃん Nyan'nyan) in this card's name is a Japanese reading (highly approximate to Chinese readings, more than on'yomi) of the Chinese character 「娘々」 (niáng niáng, "lady").
    • "Nyan" is also similar to the Japanese onomatopoeia of a cat's "meow".
  • This monster is most likely based on an oni, an ogre in Japanese folklore who often wears tiger-skin clothing. This monster's drums and drum sticks has are based on the ancient Japanese god Raijin (rai meaning "thunder" ), the god of lighting, who is usually depicted carrying them (excluding the cymbals).
