A game of Survival Dodge Ball, from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 3.

Survival Dodge Ball is one of the Free Mini Games featured in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 2 and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 3. It is unlocked when the player talks to the the Researcher at the Beach.

Gameplay[edit]

Like real-life dodgeball, the objective of Survival Dodge Ball is for the player and their partner to take turns in throwing various balls to hit their opponents and eliminate them before their opponents do the same. Each round consists of the two teams standing on an arena full of blocks at various block heights; the layout is randomized each time. The turn structure of each round always proceeds as follows: Before throwing a ball, any character can move from their current position though are only limited in moving one block forward or backward. After deciding their position, the player must decide which object to throw, then the angle and power to throw the object at. Each throwable object deals various values of damage and various effects (where damage is indicated by the number of bars or Life Points removed from the character's Life Point gauge should that character be hit) though they can also destroy blocks; each throwable object have a limit to the number of objects they can hit (whether it would be an arena block or a character) before they disappear.

The following list of throwable objects are as follows:

  • Dodge Ball: Launches a regular dodge ball which deals 3 damage to a character and disappears after one hit. Easiest to aim.
  • Tennis Ball: Launches three tennis balls which each deal 1 damage to a character and disappear after one hit. Each ball is launched at slightly different trajectories.
  • Rugby Ball: Launches a rugby ball which deals 2 damage to a character per hit and disappears after three hits.
  • Bowling Ball: Launches a bowling ball which deals 5 damage to a character and it does not disappear after any number of block hits, only disappearing once it falls below the arena or hitting a character. Most difficult to aim.
  • Cream Pie: Launches a cream pie which deals no damage to a character and disappears after one hit. If a character is hit by this, they will be unable to move or throw any balls during their turn, effectively having their turn skipped. This effect lasts for three turns.

If a character's Life Points reach zero, they are eliminated from the round. A character can also be eliminated if all the blocks the character was standing on are destroyed, regardless of their remaining Life Points. The team which loses both of their characters loses the round. If the player's team is victorious, they will receive a score and can decide whether to continue or not. As the player progresses through more rounds, the mini game becomes progressively becomes harder. The opponents start with one Life Point at Round 1, then they start with one more Life Point after every five rounds (to a maximum of five Life Points. While the player and their partner normally start with five Life Points each, from the 26th round and onwards, the player stars with zero Life Points although they get one throw before they are automatically eliminated while their partner only has one Life Point.
