Pendulum Effect

  • The effect "When you take effect damage (except during the Damage Step): You can destroy this card, and if you do, any effect that would inflict damage to a player this turn increases their LP by the same amount instead." effect starts a Chain Link. (It cannot be activated during the Damage Step. Destroying this card is considered the last thing to happen when this effect resolves.)[1]

Q&A Rulings

  • Q: If the Pendulum Effect of "D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas" is activated and "Mystical Space Typhoon" is activated in a chain, destroying "D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas", what happens?
A: If this effect is activated and "Mystical Space Typhoon" is activated in a chain, destroying "D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas", the effect is not applied. ("D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas" is not destroyed by its own effect and effects that would inflict damage are not changed to increase LP.)[2]
  • Q: After the Pendulum Effect of "D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas" resolves, is this effect applied to effects that damage any player?
A: After this effect resolves, any effect that would inflict damage increases LP by the same amount instead. Therefore, if an effect inflicts damage to you, you gain LP, and if an effect inflicts damage to the opponent, the opponent gain LP.[3]
  • Q: When you take effect damage by the effect of "Gagaga Cowboy" and the Pendulum Effect of "D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas" is activated, do you gain LP equal to the damage you took?
A: After this effect resolves, any effect that would inflict damage increases LP by the same amount instead. Therefore, if you take damage by the effect of "Gagaga Cowboy" and the Pendulum Effect of "D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas" is activated, that damage that was already taken is not changed to gain LP.[4]
  • Q: If you control 2 copies of "D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas" in your Pendulum Zones and you activate the Pendulum Effect of both cards, what happens?
A: If you take effect damage while you control 2 copies of "D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas" in your Pendulum Zones, the Pendulum Effect of each copy of "D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas" can be activated in a chain. However, even if the effect of both copies is applied, the effect damage is only changed to increase LP once. (The LP gained is not doubled. This is no different from only applying the effect of 1 copy of "D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas".)[5]

Monster Effect

  • "Special Summon this card from your hand" and "gain LP equal to the damage you took" are considered to happen simultaneously.[1]

Q&A Rulings

  • Q: If you control "D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas" and "Destruction Ring" is activated, how much damage does each player take?
A: While you control "D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas", if "Destruction Ring" targets a monster other than "D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas", since the "Any effect damage you take becomes 0." effect is applied, you take no effect damage and only the opponent takes damage. If "Destruction Ring" targets "D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas", since the effect "You take no effect damage." is not applied, both players take damage.[6]
  • Q: While the effect of "Bad Reaction to Simochi" is being applied, the effect of "D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas" is activated from the hand, what happens?
A: While the effect of "Bad Reaction to Simochi" is being applied, if the effect "When you take effect damage (except during the Damage Step): You can Special Summon this card from your hand, and if you do, gain LP equal to the damage you took." is activated, "D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas" will be Special Summoned normally. However, because the effect of "Bad Reaction to Simochi" is being applied, the "gain LP equal to the damage you took." effect will be changed to inflict damage, but since the effect "You take no effect damage." is also applied, you take no damage.[7]
  • Q: If "Vanity's Emptiness" is chained to the activation of the effect of "D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas" activated in the hand, what happens?
A: If the effect "When you take effect damage (except during the Damage Step): You can Special Summon this card from your hand, and if you do, gain LP equal to the damage you took." is activated and "Vanity's Emptiness" is activated in a chain, the effect of "D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas" is not applied. "D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas" is not Special Summoned and remains in the hand. You do not gain LP.[8]
  • Q: While the effect of "Rainbow Life" is being applied, can the effect of "D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas" be activated from the hand?
A: When you would take effect damage while the effect of "Rainbow Life" is being applied, since you would gain LP instead, the effect "When you take effect damage (except during the Damage Step): You can Special Summon this card from your hand, and if you do, gain LP equal to the damage you took." cannot be activated.[9]
  • Q: While the effect of "One Day of Peace" is being applied, can the effect of "D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas" be activated from the hand?
A: When you would take effect damage while the effect of "One Day of Peace" is being applied, since you would take 0 damage, the effect "When you take effect damage (except during the Damage Step): You can Special Summon this card from your hand, and if you do, gain LP equal to the damage you took." cannot be activated.[10]
  • Q: "Trickstar Holly Angel" is face-up in my Extra Monster Zone, and "Trickstar Light Stage" is in my Field Zone. In this situation, when I Normal or Special Summon a "Trickstar Lilybell", the effect of "Trickstar Holly Angel" inflicts 200 damage to my opponent, and the effect of "Trickstar Light Stage" inflicts a further 200 damage to my opponent. At this time, if my opponent activates the effect of their "D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas" that Special Summons it from the hand, what happens?
A: In this scenario, damage is immediately inflicted to your opponent by the effect of "Trickstar Holly Angel", and the effect of "Trickstar Light Stage" is also immediately applied. In this scenario, if your opponent activates the effect of "D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas" that Special Summons it from the hand, the effect only increases LP by the amount of damage that was inflicted by "Trickstar Light Stage". LP are not gained for the damage that was inflicted by the effect of "Trickstar Holly Angel".[11]
