Card Rulings:Malefic Territory
OCG Rulings
- The effect that activates 1 "Malefic World" from your Deck is applied when the activation of the card "Malefic Territory" resolves. (It does not target.)[1]
- The effect that prevents players from targeting cards in the Field Zones with card effects is applied as long as the "Malefic World" activated by this effect remains in the Field Zone. (Even if "Malefic Territory" is no longer on the field, this effect remains applied as long as "Malefic World" remains in the Field Zone.)[1]
- The effect that changes the effect "There can only be 1 face-up "Malefic" monster on the field" to "There cannot be face-up "Malefic" monsters on the field with the same name" does not start a Chain Link.[1]
- The effect that negates the effects of "Malefic" monsters on the field during the Battle Phase does not start a Chain Link.[1]
Q&A Rulings
- Q: Can you activate "Malefic Territory" while you control "Chicken Game" in your Field Zone?
- A: You can activate "Malefic Territory" even if you control a Field Spell Card in your Field Zone. Also, if you apply the effect that activates 1 "Malefic World" from your Deck, when it resolves, the card that is already in the Field Zone (in this case, "Chicken Game") is sent to the Graveyard, and "Malefic World" is activated from your Deck face-up in your Field Zone.[2]
- Q: Can you Special Summon "Malefic Cyber End Dragon" from your hand if your opponent controls "Malefic World", "Malefic Territory", and "Malefic Stardust Dragon"?
- A: The effect of "Malefic Territory" that changes the effect "There can only be 1 face-up "Malefic" monster on the field" to "There cannot be face-up "Malefic" monsters on the field with the same name" is applied not only to the player that activated "Malefic Territory", but also to the opponent's player.
In this case, since your opponent controls "Malefic Stardust Dragon", you cannot Special Summon "Malefic Stardust Dragon", but you can Normal or Special Summon other "Malefic" monsters. Therefore, you can Special Summon "Malefic Cyber End Dragon" from your hand.[3]
- Q: Can you Special Summon "Malefic Red-Eyes B. Dragon" from your hand by banishing "Red-Eyes B. Dragon" if you control "Malefic World", "Malefic Territory", and 2 copies of "Malefic Parallel Gear"?
- A: Even in this case, you can Special Summon "Malefic Red-Eyes B. Dragon" from your hand. The effect of "Malefic Territory" changes the effect "There can only be 1 face-up "Malefic" monster on the field" of "Malefic Red-Eyes B. Dragon" to "There cannot be face-up "Malefic" monsters on the field with the same name". At that time, since you control 2 copies of "Malefic Parallel Gear" in your Monster Zone, 1 of them is destroyed.[4]
- Q: While you control "Malefic World", "Malefic Territory", "Malefic Blue-Eyes White Dragon", and "Malefic Parallel Gear", if "Malefic Territory" is destroyed by an opponent's "Mystical Space Typhoon", there can only be 1 face-up "Malefic" monster on the field. At that time, which monster among "Malefic Blue-Eyes White Dragon" and "Malefic Parallel Gear" is destroyed?
- A: If 1 of the 2 "Malefic" monsters in the Monster Zone would be destroyed by the effect that allows only 1 face-up "Malefic" monster on the field, the controller chooses the "Malefic" monster to be destroyed. (They can choose to destroy either "Malefic Blue-Eyes White Dragon" or "Malefic Parallel Gear".)[5]
