while i have pcfb in play, i successfully tribute whirlwind prodigy for this lv 8 wind monster - Simorgh Bird of Ancestry. may i draw for the the effect of pcfb and does Simorghs (2nd) effect activate since my whirlwind prodigy treats this normal summon as if it was with 2 (WIND) monsters, not one.. even though, physically, only one monster on the field was actually used for the tribute? simorghs text reads.."If you Tribute Summon this card by Tributing only WIND monsters.." (refering to its 2nd effect). so, does this mean 2 monsters or only the # of monsters required for its tribute - in this case only 1. what are the conditions & timing for me to activate the effects of pcfb / simorgh BofA? is it that 2 WIND monsters were used to tribute from the field or do the effects of pcfb / simorgh BofA only look at the card(s) that were sent from the field AFTER they were sent when resolving (if possible?) their effects?

also, do you have any information regarding the american release (if ever) of the splendid DARK SIMORGH in the TCG. What is the status of DARK SIMORGH in korea / japan forbidden / ban list wise? im thinking for certain semi or limited due to its insane lockdown potential. this card can mercilessly crush your opponent like none other before it IMO thank you fo yo time.

  • I believe that when you start the Tribute Summon, you choose which effect will be applied: Simorgh's or Prodigy's. if you choose Simorgh's, I don't think you can draw for PCFB. If you choose Prodigy's effect, since Simorgh is being treated as requiring 2 Tributes, I believe you can draw with PCFB. As for Dark Simorgh's TCG release, nothing has been announced yet. --Darth Covah (Talk | Contribs) 08:47, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
I answered the user's questions on his talk page, since he left a message for me.
The effect of "Simorgh, Bird of Ancestry" which reduces the Tributes is a Continuous Effect that lasts as long as "Simorgh, Bird of Ancestry" remains face-up on the field. It does not apply to its own Tribute Summon.
The effect of "Whirlwind Prodigy" only counts for paying the cost for the Tribute Summon. For every other intent and purpose, it is one monster. It works kind of like "Ritual Raven" or "Spell Economics" - you {pay the cost/satisfy the requirement}, but in a different way. Probably a better way of writing the effect would be, "When this card is being Tributed for the Tribute Summon of a WIND monster that requires two or more Tributes, you may perform the Tribute Summon with one less Tribute.".
You only Tribute one monster ("Whirlwind Prodigy") for the Tribute Summon of "Simorgh, Bird of Ancestry", so you cannot activate the effect of "Precious Cards from Beyond".

Thank you for clearing this up. I found that this card has been errata'd since its flaming eternity release and reads, "When Tribute Summoning a WIND monster, you can treat this monster as 2 Tributes." This is a definitely a better way of wording these types of cards. Also, if dark simorgh were to be released here, do you think it would come in an issue of shonen jump or elsewhere?
