I actually have serious doubts about that. Kaiba Corp. held a monopoly on duel disks, why change without competition? Why change from holograms? Now that I mention it, Kaiba Corp. isn't even MENTIONED in the WHOLE of Zexal. I have some serious doubts that Zexal and 5D's even take place in the same timeline. It is entirely possible that Kaiba Corp. simply evolved. As for why change the Duel Disk, it's probably because the Duel Disk just wasn't portable enough, but it's all speculation. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 02:21, July 11, 2013 (UTC)

I don't think Zexal takes place in the same universe as Dm-5D's ether (even 5D's had mention of characters from previous series in the movie before Yusei even went back in time, and even Kaibacorp mention in the first season or two). Just on Zexal being in a seperate continuity/multiverse/universe/whatever to DM/GX and 5D's... has anyone here actually heard the theory that the result of the ending of 5D's + Bonds beyond time resulted in a alternate timeline; so you have:

        5D's
DM->GX <
        ZEXAL

And thus Synchros never existed in ZEXALs timeline along with any other characters being significant enough to be of mention, - although I'm not to sure how well any of the Barians past lives works ancient Egypt as shown in DM - although mroe issues with the Atlantis/Dartz arc than that I think... Anyhow I have nothing else to contribute as far as differant methods of holographic technology being utalised in-universe other than i think ZEXALs makes the most sense as it is the list interuptive anyhow </rant> --slave(command) 09:24, July 11, 2013 (UTC)

The most logic to me is that Zexal is just in a different universe (and adding that there isn't even mention of Riding-Duels or Speed Spells). As for 5D's, Yiliaster altered the time-line from the start of the series (they altered a lot of things in the series present time before the series even begun actually; Zero Reverse and Rudger becoming a Dark Signer sooner is one of them. Their tamper with the past even caused Godwin to become a Dark Signer when originally he wasn't one. I'm not even sure the fortune cup or the gang knowing Godwin even happened in the original time. 5D's ending was alrernate, because originally Yusei was fighting in circuts and Aki even participated with him, while this time Yusei stayed in Neo Domino City and Aki chose to go be a Docter). Satoshi Kuwabara has been asked about the existence of Synchro and Tuner monsters in Zexal.
