Forum:Beast Riser rulings

I may be jumping the gun, here, but I need some ruling clarification for Beast Riser, since the card itself gives no indication to them:

1. Does the ATK boost last for as long as the monster remains face-up on the field, or does it go away at the end of the turn?

2. Can I use it during the opponent's turn, or must I only use it during my turn? — This unsigned comment was made by 66.228.109.2 (talkcontribs) 23:32, April 16, 2010

From the card's currect translation the answers are these:
1) The ATK bonus is not reset during the End Phase.
2) Yes, you can since it is a Spell Speed 2 Quick-like Effect.

So, it would work similarly to Berserking, right? While it's face-up on the field, I can use it when the opponent attacks to boost my monster's ATK, correct? Also, does it raise ATK by the current ATK of the removed monster, or the original ATK, ie. does it calculate the ATK before the monster is removed or after? 66.228.109.2 12:18, April 17, 2010 (UTC)

By the way it is errata'd now, it can be used during your opponent's turn. It raises the ATK of your monster by the current ATK of the removed monster. Please note that you are required to remove from play the monster first.--Hide Head Turtle 15:01, April 17, 2010 (UTC)

I hope you guys are right; I'd hate to replace Berserking in my deck with Beast Riser, only to learn later that the rulings for Riser goes against what you said, screwing up my strategies with it. 66.228.109.2 01:50, April 18, 2010 (UTC)

Well at the worst point, you could keep three in your side deck just incase a ruling or judge call is made against you. --LordGeovanni 02:19, April 24, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah. Until we get a definitive answer on this, I'm not about to switch Berserking out for it just yet. My main concern is the timing of the "once per turn" condition; does it mean "once during your turn" or "once during either player's turn"? I know the standards for when you can activate a "once per turn" effect is different for Traps than it is for Spells or Monsters (for the latter two, unless it specifically states you can activate it during the opponent's turn, you usually can't, while the former usually lets you know if you can't activate it during the opponent's turn), but I just want to make sure, so there isn't any slip-ups. 66.228.109.2 02:33, April 24, 2010 (UTC)

Best choice I would give is what I already gave. I have been thrown out of far too many torneys because I was "Arguing with the judge" and all I asked was why he gave a certain ruling. I was even banned from a torney hall for a month because I asked again after the torney was completed. It turned out that I was right but the shop said the Judge has the athority to change the rules and that is why he is the judge. Long story short, when in doubt have a back-up. In this case, you could keep it in the side deck and switch in between duels. --LordGeovanni 04:22, April 24, 2010 (UTC)

You can use it during your opponent's turn. The reason you can't use Ignition(-like) effects is because they're Ignition(-like) effects, which by definition can only be activated during your turn. "Beast Riser" has a Spell Speed 2 effect, so you can use it during your opponent's turn, like every other Trap Card. Plus, you can in the OCG. --Deus Ex Machina (Talk) 22:21, April 24, 2010 (UTC)
Ugh, I can't read Japanese, and Babelfish is refusing to work with me, so can you translate what the rulings for this card is, from that site? From what little I got from my translation of the FAQ before Babelfish conked out on me, it can be activated at any time during either player's turn, the ATK is boosted by the current ATK of the monster removed to activate it, it lasts for as long as the monster remains on the field, even if Beast Riser itself is removed from play(?!), it can be stacked by multiple copies, and you can remove from play the monster being attacked for it, and the attack will be stopped, as a result. Confirm? 66.228.109.2 23:23, April 24, 2010 (UTC)
Q:相手ターン中もしくは相手ターンのダメージステップにも発動できますか?
A:できます。(10/04/18)
Q: Can you activate it even during the Damage Step of your opponent's turn?
A: It is possible.

What about the other stuff that I mentioned> Can you confirm them?66.228.109.2 13:28, April 25, 2010 (UTC)
Like, the other stuff you Babelfish-ed? It's pretty much correct - the only problem is the last ruling. It should be, if the attacked monster is RFPed during the Damage Step, then the attack stops (no Damage Calculation, no Replay, etc). Removing the monster during the Battle Step would cause a Replay. --Deus Ex Machina (Talk) 21:20, April 25, 2010 (UTC)
...Damn, that has got to be one of the most powerful ATK boosters I have ever seen. Well, I've been asking for good Beast/Beast-Warrior support for a while; I just never thought it would be something like this. I think I found my new staple.66.228.109.2 21:28, April 25, 2010 (UTC)
