Forum:Collector or Duelist

Hi im new to this forum. I have been collecting YGO cards after a while since Legend of Blue Eyes came out. To be honest I could never build a deck successfully, because im a big fan of the anime btw i mean the jap version and i just get into all those new cards that appear on the latest episodes. I rarely duel although, I have an yusei deck with an secret rare stardust =) I just like collecting rare and signiture cards of the characters. im also not one of the people who just build decks to win which i can prove that as i am starting to collect an yugi deck.

What about you guys

Greetings, Enternal. Welcome to the Wikia. Just note that your signature goes at the end of your post so that it'd be easier to read. And unless that was intentional, there's only one n in "eternal".
I'm more of a duelist than a collector, actually. I've had very tough luck striking high-value cards, and it becomes much more difficult combined with my limited budget. I usually aim for lowest rarity in order to get the cheapest possible price for a card, and don't buy packs unless they have something I can use in my decks.
...Though considering my restricted budget, I end up creating more decks than I build or play, just because it is fun to work out any ideas I get. I'd end up leaning towards the "deckbuilder" faction if it were present. --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 02:32, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

I'm a Duelist. Why collect and not use them? Though it doesn't help that any good cards are usually $30+, and you will usually need them for a variety of Decks (Stardust, Starlight Road, Black Rose, etc.), so I usually don't place very high in my local tournament due to my card budget. That's why Konami created Tag Force and World Championship Video Games! Drew-Gi-Oh! (talkcontribs) 04:49, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

well i do have all the cards u just mentioned drew yugioh coz i do run a yusei deck. well maybe i should start to duel a bit often =)

Duelist since I've been dueling my entire life and I'm not stopping for anything unless there is no one to duel. Fallensilence (talkcontribs) 17:57, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

I am both, I both collect any card I like (whether it be rare or not), and I also Duel, although since not many people in my area duel a lot (althugh I am dueling on Yugioh 2010) I am mostly collecting and trying to get cards for my decks at this point--BassNettoHikari2 (talkcontribs) 20:51, August 3, 2010 (UTC)

Wait I think that if you are a duelist, then that means that you are a collector since you have to collect the cards in order to duel. Fallensilence (talkcontribs) 00:52, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

I suck at trading so I stick to casual game play.--Helix-king (talkcontribs) 01:18, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

Well trading isn't that hard, especially when you are looking for archtypes for your deck or splashable cards. It's pretty easy. Fallensilence (talkcontribs) 01:30, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

Its just when I trade people are like "Well I value this at this and that at that" so my stuff is conveniently ALWAYS worth 10+ dollars less than their stuff. Like some one will tell me Their Cyber-End Dragon is worth more than the Battle-Fader I just packed in front of them. Asses.--Helix-king (talkcontribs) 01:36, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah. I think maybe you should just stick to the card game. The card game is fun just to duel with it. Fallensilence (talkcontribs) 01:43, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

I live in a small city called Nanaimo, BC Canada Population: 75,000 and there's really no one to duel that I know of. However I am a huge collector of Yugioh cards just the 2002-2004 Series no GX or 5DS whatsoever I have most of the cards Yugi and Kaiba have in their dueling decks and like to experiment with them against each other so I am just a collector for now.--TheCollector 12 (talkcontribs) 02:14, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

I'd have to say I'm mainly a duelist, but I love making decks. I do collect however, but I only collect monsters of the warrior type. DestinyWarrior (talkcontribs) 04:39, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

Maybe you should run a Gemini Deck or a Warrior Deck. Those are always fun to use. Fallensilence (talkcontribs) 17:26, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

And when they work right with the right build, they are quite the deck, trust me, I've faced one nasty Gemini Deck--BassNettoHikari2 (talkcontribs) 17:32, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

I wouldn't call them nasty since you make them look like sickness. Fallensilence (talkcontribs) 18:02, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

I would consider myself both a duelist and a collector. First I duel, having a GB and Machina Fortress deck (my only tourment decks, the rest are casual decks for friends) Dragon, Spellcounter deck with Butterfly Dagger loop, D-hero, Rock/earth/bounce/sphinx deck, Alien, and Zombies are my other big decks. Then there are decks in the works, such as: RFP, Dino's, Cloudians, Spiders, Six Samuari's and more. All these deck types don't top at tourments, and I don't expect them to, but part of the fun for Yugioh is just building and dueling with diffrent decks. I am also collector because some archtypes, like Ko'kai's and Reptalian, are incomplete for me, and the only way to get them is to collect them. --184.96.225.138 (talk) 05:35, August 5, 2010 (UTC)

  • I would also consider myself to be both a "collector" and a "duelist", but I am more inclined toward the "collector" side though. I pay particularly close attention to the card ID numbers because(for example: "GB1-003" is for the first release of the "Winged Dragon Of Ra". Which was then followed by "DOD-001" from the Xbox game "Dawn Of Destiny" and then by the third reprint from the "Legendary Collection" which is scheduled to come out some time in October. I have 2 copies of the "GB1-003", one is sealed and the other is opened). Acquiring the first release of card is very important to me! As a matter of fact, almost all of my best cards are kept in my "collection only" stock, hence presenting me with quite a unique problem. I sincerely apologize for sounding like a broken record, but for those of you who may have read my other postings, it is no secret that my favorite deck build is "Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon" and my favorite character is "Seto Kaiba". Furthermore, there have been only a couple of occasions where I have actually broken my rules and used the cards in my "collection only" stock to duel. I normally purchase 3 more copies of a particular card(s) to make a deck if they are "common" or "cheap", that way I don't have to worry about loosing or damaging my "collection only" stock. As many of you have already probably figured out by now, I have 6 copies of "Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon"(3 with ID number "JMP-EN005" sealed and 3 with ID number "GLD1-EN028" that I use) and dude, this gets super expensive man! I love Yu-Gi-Oh! and I do not regret spending money on it. Although now that I think about it, I really should start using "proxy" cards. Yu-Gi-Oh! forever baby!  :D

I'm a duelist, I play to win(and for fun too obviously), and usually place in the top eight players of any tournament I go to(mostly locals). I don't really collect because I have to trade my nice cards in order to get useful cards that will help my decks. I wish I could be a better collector. im not really a colllector but I do try to pay attention to the card codes so I can tell if im getting ripped off. --94.8.55.247 (talk) 17:01, August 11, 2010 (UTC)

Just don't misread it like I do. Fallensilence (talkcontribs) 20:55, August 11, 2010 (UTC)
