Forum:First YCS of the Year! Thoughts?

So, YCS Toronto of 2012 is the first YCS of this advanced constructed format, so what are your thoughts about the matches and decks we've seen so far? I personally love the Karakuri and Geargia hybrids, they seem to just scream Machine madness for the format. The Spellbooks are looking good too, and I'm thinking about remaking my older Prophecy deck. God I love the smell of a new format, don't you guys agree? ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 20:04, September 1, 2012 (UTC)

So out of all the coverage I've read so far, it seems like Chimeratech Fortress Dragon is going to be a big side deck card this format. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 00:18, September 2, 2012 (UTC)
IMO the new format is looking to be more creative and fun than the last one so far. Like you, I particularly like the Karakuri/Geargia decks; it's a pity that Machines are given so much very overpowered anti-support for sidedecking though. 108.196.206.15 (talk) 12:09, September 2, 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, but in a way that's what makes the Geargia builds all balanced, if you ask me. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 14:43, September 2, 2012 (UTC)
About the creative thing, out of all the coverage from day 1, I think I read about like maybe 4-5 different decks (Geargia seems to be the big favorite, but it's the 1st YCS, so side decks are yet to be really perfected), but yeah a bunch of decks at the opening makes me just love this format, it's much slower, and quite fun. I love how a Rock Stun deck went 5-0, Rock Stun has been one of my all-time favorites, but it was always a little slow. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 14:47, September 2, 2012 (UTC)

To RECAP:

  • Xyz Spam Wind-Ups took 1st Place.
  • Physics with 3 Grandsoil the Elemental Lord took 2nd Place.
  • The top 8 was fairly diverse, with decks like Geargia, Dark World, Wind-Up, E-HERO, and 1 Burn deck. Personally I think Wind-Ups will become the deck to beat, but Geargia is up there too. Prophecy and other REDU card themes, didn't really get a top 8 spot (I think), but they were used by people, and the format is REALLY, REALLY, REALLY young, like 1 day old, so who the hell knows what's gonna happen.

Personally, I'm kinda upset that Wind-ups won this first YCS of the new format. I wanted to see something new win that tournament, something like that new Grandsoil Psychic deck that ended up 2nd and got my attention. Anyway, this is just beginning, I hope to see new decks start topping in this new format.

The guy with the Psychic Deck summoned "Naturia Beast" using "Psychic Commander" + "Tragoedia". Epic.
Anyway, I think that Wind-Ups will stay as Tier 1, followed by Madolche, Geargia/Karakuri hybrids, and maybe Atlantean/Mermail. However, I can't stop thinking about what cards will be in Cosmo Blazar and Structure Deck: Assault of the Flaming King. If Laval gets more support, they will be huge and will be hit by the March 2013 List ("Formula Sychron" and "T.G. Hyper Librarian" banned? Maybe, since Konami is slowing get ride of the best Synchros...) --Missign0 (talkcontribs) 20:25, September 3, 2012 (UTC).
Aw, bummer for Wind-Ups winning another YCS; I vote that if they're still doing this well by March they should Limit either Shark, Magician, or Factory. Still, pretty nice variety of decks being made this format; it's a relief after a format of everybody who topped high playing Inzektors, Wind-Ups, Dino Rabbit, or Chaos Dragons. 108.196.206.15 (talk) 22:26, September 3, 2012 (UTC)
I don't really have an issue with the Wind-Ups, they don't drop out more than maybe 1 card from hand, and they act like the new Plant Sycnhro, but they use Xyz instead of Synchro, so not that big a deal if you ask me, but if they continue to do well, then maybe a limit to Magician and a semi-limit to Factory is needed. But it looks really close, and I kinda think it will be like that all format, unless Konami throws in a random Structure Deck (They probably will). ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 23:59, September 3, 2012 (UTC)

It seems like a bunch of decent players chose a bad deck to play and took it to YCS.
Geargia are horrible, I have no clue how they got that far.
Psychics I can't comment on but I doubt it's as good as the other options out there. I also remember reading he pretty much won one game because his opponent had no idea what he was playing so he had a bunch of dead cards after siding.
I'd wait until the next YCS at the very least before determining top decks for this format.

Do you have any source that shows how Geargias are horrible? They seem to have a habit of getting lots of plusses with Geargiarmor, and Karakuri Strategist mdl 248 "Nishipachi" helps a lot with that too. 108.196.206.15 (talk) 18:59, September 6, 2012 (UTC)
We were giving out opinions on the decks that topped and what we expect to see. Also, even if he won a lot of his game 1s with surprise, he still won them. Plus at the beginning of a format, everything is really fair game, and there are no boundaries of what deck to take or what to use and side. As for Geargia, they aren't horrible, they offer a consistent way to generate more card presence and quickly leverage into bigger Xyz monsters. The deck isn't as versatile as Wind-Up, but it has it's strengths and can quickly get a large board of monsters. It might be slow, but that doesn't translate directly into it being a bad deck. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 01:30, September 7, 2012 (UTC)
I was meaning horrible in relation to actual decks.
Compare straight Geargia's with DW, HERO's, Wind-Ups, Six Sams, any T1 or T1.5 deck. They wont do well.
Saying X-Sabers are bad isn't true either, but compared to current decks the deck isn't good enough to win consistently.
And @Ace, yes he won games, that's why I said "decent players chose a bad deck". Again, "bad" is in relation to current decks.

Maybe Geargia aren't as amazing as GeargiaWind-Up, but hey, the Geargia are just plain fun as an archetype. I can't blame people for wanting to try and play Geargia over going to the same old decks we kinda saw last format. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk)
