Forum:Hoax cards

According to this post on Pojo by Kevin Tewart "Yasushi the Skull Knight" is fake. Assuming that that is true, "Masahiro the Dark Clown" and "Tomohiro the Mountain Warrior" must also be fake. I'm not entirely sure that he's right or not.

Narchibald84 created the articles. He made this post on Pojo after finding them. He mentions a few sites there, but I'm not sure if any of them are his original source. On the same thread Horoko says that since the cards are listed on JERP (Japanese Expert Rulings Page) in their Forbidden/Limited/Illegal lists, the cards are real. That's not an official site, but I think he's saying that they're very reliable.

Here in Japanese and here in English and Japanese are the Forbidden and Limited Lists for this year's World Championship, which was posted Konami's official OCG site. All three of the cards are listed there. That looks like proof that they are genuine or is there a possibility that Konami made a mistake or want to be sure people who have mistaken them for real don't play them.

In the event that they are actually fake, I think we should still keep their articles since they have received wide recognition in the Yu-Gi-Oh! fandom, but of course mention on the articles that they are fake.

Also on the subject of hoaxes, we have an article on an April Fools' hoax, Gold Series 2008 April Fools. The set numbers there are fake and the cards "Emphasis of Light", "Eruption of Fire", "Neutralization Spell", "Neverfading Mist" and "Unlimited Blade Rain" are fake. Even though the articles acknowledge that they are hoaxes, I think we should still delete them. They don't seem that notable to me. I've almost never heard anyone talk about them after that April Fools'.

So does anybody have anything to add or agree/disagree with anything I've said. Please leave a message if you do. Thanks.

I totally agree with everything said above. I think that it should be mentioned that they are faked in an obvious way when it comes to that.-- HHTurtle  (Talk) 03:00, July 31, 2010 (UTC)
I'm not going to try and say one way or another whether the Asian Tourney 2000 promos are fake or real, but I definitely agree that the articles on them should be kept - even if they are fake, there seem to be a large number of sources treating them as real, and the images suggest that the actual cards exist, regardless of whether they're fakes (though I must say, if they are fake, those are probably the most well-done fake cards I've ever seen).
I would like to point out that this site has had a picture of T2-01 since February 11, 2001, according to the Internet Archive (Google Translate mangles the Japanese too much for me to be able to tell if the text relates to the card at all, and if so, if it mentioned the card in the earlier version).
One more thing about them, take note of this later post by Familiar Stranger where he posits an alternate translation of the card names (he appears to use these translations consistently through subsequent versions of his list) - should we rename the cards to match? There is also this post where he talks about how the cards were made - I have no idea what source he had for it, though.
For the April Fools hoax, I would say keep the set page and add any details of the hoax card there, and then redirect them as probable (however unlikely they may be) search terms.
One last thought, is there a current version of the OCG-only list Familiar Stranger had been maintaining? If not, I've been thinking of starting one in my userspace. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 04:19, July 31, 2010 (UTC)
The World Championship Forbidden and Limited List mentioned above is official, as it's posted on the official OCG site. It uses the translations we're using. Familiar Stranger has his translations listed as unofficial. I wouldn't rename the articles here. You can see the most recent version of his list here. It hasn't been updated in over a year.
Meh, I'd settle for merging the eTCG April Fools into one article. It's better than keeping the individual articles. Although other unofficial sites have made April Fools hoaxes. I don't think this one stands out much. -- Deltaneos (talk) 11:02, July 31, 2010 (UTC)
I wasn't aware there were other April Fools hoaxes (though in hindsight, it's pretty obvious); I agree with you that they should all be merged together then. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 16:18, July 31, 2010 (UTC)
The Shadow Realms forums posted a fake English release of "Tragoedia" with an image of the card, called "Tragoedia the Lord of Nightmare". I think they did some other stuff too that year. Pojo did a fake Featured Card review where everyone was praising "Skull Servant" and probably some other ones. We even posted a fake image of "Dark Magician Girl" wearing lingerie as a Featured Card one year. I don't consider them or the eTCG one to be that notable. And I'm sure there are dozens of other ones that I haven't mentioned.
April Fools' hoaxes we have given recognition to are UDE's fake "Card Trooper" effect, since that is somewhat official and The Final Abridged Video Ever, since we document most YGOTAS stuff. -- Deltaneos (talk) 16:37, July 31, 2010 (UTC)
Sounds interesting... I'm surprised we don't already have a general "April Fools' Shenanigans" article yet (or do we?). And what's the current policy on uploading AF images? I'd like to see the Tragoedia and DMG... ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 17:31, July 31, 2010 (UTC)
