Forum:I am trying to build a Fiend Control Deck

I am at the moment trying to build a fiend control deck with elements of stall and enemy manipulation. Mill is one tiny strategy but not worth it. If anyone can help me out that would be great. Here are a few cards that I have in the deck as of now.

I need a whole new reinventing of the deck. A new strategy and a new win condition. I am also in need of cards that are good for a control deck. Any help would be great. Please leave comments on how I can improve. Thank you! :D --Overlordzorc (talkcontribs) 22:27, July 8, 2010 (UTC)

Brain Jacker

I should probably clarify. When I say control deck I mean controlling my opponents actions and building up to a win condition. It's like a stall deck or Clown Control where you do not allow your opponent to make many moves resulting in a semi-lock to a complete lock. Like a game of chess. --Overlordzorc (talkcontribs) 22:28, July 8, 2010 (UTC)

Dude, I got you.

Let me start by saying you're talking to the right guy. I used to run the only tourney-winning fiend deck in my area, and I still run one :P Be prepared for an essay, because if you want a good fiend deck, you're going to have to read it all.

Instead of starting with what you need to add, we should start with what you need to get rid of. A deck with even a small amount of worthless cards is not a competitive deck at all. You need to ditch the Gravekeeper's Servant s, all of them. In today's meta people WANT to mill their decks, and putting stuff in their graveyard and thinning out their decks does not do much for your control, but may help theirs quite a bit. I also don't understand the purpose of Dark Designator, as it essentially tips the card advantage -2 against you, if you use the card right. And once said card is in their hand, if you get it right, what are you going to do about it? Nothing, because you don't have any hand destruction. The Spear Cretin s and Shallow Grave s have to go, because they also screw up your card advantage, and give your opponent more options, which you don't want in a control deck. The Wall of Illusions are not a terrible choice but it's iffy if you want to play three of them. I'd say play two, or none. If you do play any, however, add a Mind Crush to your deck to get rid of whatever it is you bounce back to them, especially when it's one of their more important monsters. Take out one Dark Bribe, atleast, I'd take out two, and replace at least one with Dark Illusion. It will sometimes do the exact same thing, but not give your opponent free cards. Also try taking out one Raigeki Break, or more. Card Advantage is very important.

Now you have almost an empty deck, but we'll fix that. Replace the taken out Cretin's with 3 Newdoria s. These fiends are excellent for controlling the field and getting fiends in your graveyard to bring out the Dark Necrofear s. Dark Jeroids are not a bad idea either, but that's up to how you want this type of control to go. Consider using a couple Stygian Security and/or 3 Giant Germ s. I highly recommend putting 3 of atleast ONE of these sets in your deck. These add to your control and card advantage and are tribute fodder for the powerful fiends you're going to put into your deck which will give you real control, not unlike the perfect Dark Ruler Ha Des you already have. Now that you have tribute fodder, you need to put in at least one Caius the Shadow Monarch, which adds to your field control, and possible burning effect. Once he's on the field, too, the opponent has to work a little to get rid of him, not unlike Ha-des. Tributing your fiends is another great way to get fiends in the graveyard, to possibly combo with Dark Necrofear for some massive beat-down.

Grave Squirmer is a great option for fiend control. He has an advantage over Newdoria as he can destroy any card, not just monsters, and this can screw up any possible theme with field cards or necessary cards that sit on the field just waiting to be destroyed.

Now you say you want to stall and control, to build up to a "win condition". I've so far given you field control and card advantage, which is one way to control and stall, but there are more, and now we're talking about negating, bouncing, and all-around toolbox techniques to slow your opponent's play down. For this we need good Trap cards. Your Zoma the Spirits are great, and so are the Scrap-Iron Scarecrows. Try throwing in a Trap Stun, Spell Shield Type-8, Mirror Force, and Torrential Tribute for starters. Seven Tools of the Bandit is a pretty versatile card, too, with having a spell speed of 3 and working on ANY trap in the game. Just has a cost. Your Jowgen the Spiritualist is a good choice, and can wipe out all kinds of current decks which focus around swarming, and your discarding can even help get fiends in the graveyard.

But with field control, and negating ability, and slowing power, what happens now? Even if you stop your opponent from doing everything they want, but you have no cards to now rule the field, neither of you are going to be winning consistently. The problem with your previous deck was that it only focusing around slowing the opponent, but no strategy to win or any sort of thing to do afterward. If your opponent is moving slowly, they are still moving. If you don't ever attack or hurt their life points in some way, you can never have that "win condition" you want. This is what the Necreofears and high-level fiends are for. But if you want to damage them in alternative ways, that are more specific to the idea of control, I have some advice. Hate Buster. With your deck you'll have plenty of weak fiends on the field, who are going to die by being attacked by whatever strong monsters your opponent can come up with. Hate Buster blows up ANYTHING that attacks a fiend of yours, and inflicts life point damage equal to their attack. But it also blows up your monster. This is no big deal, though, because if your opponent was attacking, your monster was going to die anyway. This helps you control the field by ridding your opponent of their monsters, and control the game by wasting their life points away, so you get closer to that winning you want.

The only type of control we haven't yet touched upon is Hand Control. There's only one good card for you that I can suggest, and that's Ante. The point is to use this card when you have one of your many Dark Necrofears or high-level fiends in your hand, and hoping your opponent doesn't have any high-levels in his hand. When Ante works, your opponent loses their card, and they lose 1000 life points, once again giving you both control and being closer to winning. How to use Ante, however, is when you know your opponent doesn't have higher level cards. Wait until they have the chance to tribute, and don't take it, and it comes to your turn. Use your common sense and your knowledge of your opponent. Trap Dustshoot can also help you here, because if you use it, you already know what they have in their hand, and know they'll be losing one of them, at the cost of their own life points.

Lastly, a couple of other suggestions for cards. The End of Anubis. A high-level fiend who prevents use of the graveyard. With him on the field you can still summon Dark Necrofear because he can't stop you from paying a cost, but he stops all kinds of other meta cards that would normally give you trouble. Rivalry of Warlords can help you control the field because almost always your monsters will be fiends, but your opponent may have to destroy his own monsters and it can prevent him from summoning more if they are different types. Almost everyone has variation of types in their deck.

Sorry it's not shorter and simpler. I feel the need to explain to you my purpose for taking out so many cards you have and adding so many, and why. To help understand the strategy will help you run the deck so much better. If you have any questions, comments, different preferences of strategy, post it. Hope this helped! any thoughts on Darkness Neosphere?ScribblesTheDarkClown (talkcontribs) 17:56, July 9, 2010 (UTC)

Absolutely. This is one card I forgot to add to the suggestions. It is a bit costly, but amazing field control. Combo it with Royal Decree for some real lockdown. NecrofearNorleras (talkcontribs) 18:09, July 9, 2010 (UTC)
