Forum:Magical Dimension Question

I was wondering, if I use magical dimension and tribute one of my face down cards with a flip effect like old vindictive magician or Gravekeeper's Guard, will the effect be activated before the monster gets sent to the graveyard?

I also have another question, could I attack with a monster like for example Breaker the Magical Warrior and during the battle phase activate magical dimension, and then special summon a monster like say Dark Magician, could I then attack with the Dark Magician? --75.140.67.96 18:32, 3 October 2008 (UTC) (Unsigned)

At your first question, the effects of flip effect monsters are not activated. At your second question, you can use magical dimension at the battle step (not during the damage step). --ATEMVEGETA (19:51, 3 October 2008) (UTC) (Unsigned)

I have a question too. I know that the tribute for this card must be done when it resolves, but when I need to choose which monster to tribute, when the card resolves, or at the time I activate it? --Yogosa 23:47, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

  • Tributing is the cost. So, you Tribute your monster at the time you activate it, before your opponent responds if possible. --Gadjiltron 06:38, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
  • Taken directly from the Rulings of Magical Dimension: Tributing a monster for "Magical Dimension" is not a cost; it's part of the effect and happens when the effect resolves. If the effect of "Magical Dimension" is negated then you do not Tribute a monster. I believe this clears it - tributing the monster is not a cost. --Darth Covah 07:46, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Hey guys, you could at least read my question carefully. I asked "when I need to choose which monster to tribute?". Not "when I tribute the monster?" You see, its very important sometimes when I duel. When I activate this card, if I declare which monster i will tribute when the card activates, then my opponent can chain some cards to remove that monster from the field and Magical Dimension effect will be gone. But if I choose which monster to tribute when I resolve it, then my opponent can't know for sure which monster to remove when he gets a chance to chain, but at the time I choose it is too late for him already to do something. --Yogosa 19:26, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

You choose the monster (for the tribute) when you activate the card. Not at her resolution as the choice of the monster (for the destruction). ATEMVEGETA 20:59, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

So it targets my monster which I am going to tribute, right? --Yogosa 21:44, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

  • I'm not so sure. I would think, if it's not part of a cost, then you'd choose it after resolution. We need a more experienced hand here, obviously. Danny Lilithborne 00:51, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

if i recall, the chain activates backwards, so if he activated a card to get rid of the target creature then his card would resolve first and the creature would either disappear or be destroyed, which in turn would cause you to lose your tribute. soon as you pick a creature to tribute he/she can activate and then you lose your target and cant repick. that is my opinion.

"Magical Dimension" does not target. You select the monster to be Tributed at resolution. --Deus Ex Machina (Talk) 03:04, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Yeah i agree. If you have two creatures on the field, even if he destroyed one you can still tribute but if you only have one, you wont be able too.

You can use "Royal Oppression" to negate the entire effect of "Magical Dimension". You negate the whole effect, so nothing is Tributed, nothing is Summoned, and nothing is destroyed. You cannot negate just the Summon.

Magical Dimension and Sangan

If I Tribute Sangan for Magical Dimension, Summon a Spellcaster, then destroy a monster. Do I still get Sangan's effect?

Sangan has a mandatory trigger effect. It never misses the timing. -dest- (talkcontribs) 17:13, November 17, 2010 (UTC)
