If i use any spell like dark hole or monster reincarnation, can my opponent use mystical space typhoon or dust tornado to stop my spell cards?

NO. To stop a card's effect you must negate it with cards like "Magic Jammer", and since "Mystical Space Typhoon" and "Dust Tornado" didn't negate "Dark Hole"s or "Monster Reincarnation"s effect, so they're cannot stop the card's effect. ATEMVEGETA 9:37, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Twister

Twister states "Pay 500 life point, destroy 1 face-up spell or trap card." It does not mention that it "negates". Does this fall into the same category of MST and DT and only destroys, but not Negates?

  • Correct. It destroys a face-up spell/trap, but it will not negate one. -- Sub 22:30, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Doesnt it say in majic jammers effect that it negates the effect also? 71.59.228.247 10:18, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

  • Yes! Magic Jammer negate the effect of the spell card. So her effect dosn't apply. ATEMVEGETA (Talk) 11:00, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

sorry i mis read atemvegeta first answere i was really tired last night

I know, I know....

Everyone knows that MST only destroys but doesnt negate, but still dont understand why. I mean, it's a quickplay and yugioh 101, in a chain the last card is resolved first and if i use a MST as quickplay, how does a destroyed card still work. i know my opinion doesnt mean crap against the whole world, not to mention the makers of the game, but i would just like to understand why, otherwise they should have a massive worldwide burning of the card and reprint them with further subtext.... now is that asking for too much?

Ok, boy, let me teach you something!~ In this game of yu-gi-oh, if a effect is activated properly, it needs to be resolved. You properly activate a normal spell card by slapping it on the field face-up! And it will be resolved, no matter where it is afterwards. Now, look at the difference between solemn judgment and mystical space typhoon. Solemn judgment says "negate and destroy" while mystical space typhoon only states "destroy." If you only destroy a card, as long as the effect is activated properly, it's meant to be resolved. However, continuous spell and trap cards must stay face-up on the field to be resolved. So you can chain Mystical space typhoon to destroy them and prevent their effect from being resolved. War Pigg 04:53, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
Similarly, let's say you activate the effect of "Snipe Hunter" and your opponent chains "Ring of Destruction". "Ring of Destruction" resolves first and destroys "Snipe Hunter", and then the effect of "Snipe Hunter" resolves. "Snipe Hunter" does not need to remain face-up on the field, so its effect will resolve properly (you will roll a die and possibly destroy a card).
The same thing applies to most Spell/Trap Cards. Most do not need to remain face-up on the field, so their effects will resolve properly, even if "Mystical Space Typhoon" is used to destroy it.

Duel

I had some conflict with a friend I was dueling. Lets suppose he activates mystical space typhoon against a field magic card or continus trap card on the field thats been there for a couple of turns. He chooses to activate MST to destroy it however I decide I really need that card so I activate Magic Jammer or Solemn Judgment to negate it. My friend said that it my negation doesn't matter since his quick spell card destroys my card immediately. What is the ruling on this?— This unsigned comment was made by 173.181.73.169 (talkcontribs)

Mystical Space Typhoon will be negated. So the Field Spell / Continuous Trap is Not Destroyed.
MST does not instantly destroy the card, it destroys the card during resolution. He might have confused with costs, which are paid right away and are not refunded if the card is negated. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 06:42, December 16, 2010 (UTC)

WTH? MST has been negated so why does he still insist that it still destroys? About the quick spell, it only meant about spell speed in how a chain works not its effects. --SilentHero26 (talkcontribs) 06:49, December 16, 2010 (UTC)
