Forum:Number 88: Gimmick Puppet - Destiny Leo

People say that this thing would be so OP. Me, I don't really think so. All that needs to be done is interpret the effect as the following:

This card cannot be special summoned except by Xyz Summon. Once per turn, you can detach an Overlay Unit from this card. If this card has no other Overlay Units after you detach an Overlay Unit from this card with this effect, you win the duel.

You might think that this isn't much of a solution. However, it solves the following issues:

1) It makes it necessary to detach an overlay unit in order to win. Ramming Galaxy Eyes headfirst into Destiny Leo would solve a lot of problems. Without Overlay Units to detach, it becomes impossible to win with this effect. So simply using Junk Archer, Galaxy Eyes, Past Image, and other effects that force the detachment of Overlay Units not by Destiny Leo's effect would make this card's effect useless.

2) The special summon condition would make it impossible to win by Xyz Reborn.

Granted, other strategies like Overlay Regenerate or Spirit Conversion Device make other problems, but that can be solved by other limiting card text. Besides, this card is obviously easier to rid yourself of than Vennominaga. THAT card is super OP, just super difficult to summon. This at least can be easily eliminated via card effects.

Just make it unable to attack and make its XYZ Material unable to be removed unless by its own effect. Also make it immune to cards like Book of Moon and Interdimensional Matter Transporter.  HHT   - (Talk to the Turtle) 17:53, June 6, 2012 (UTC)

lol, is it possible to use this combo with Oni-Gami Combo then use Overlay Regenerate and then detach it with "Destiny Leo"? 24.83.215.20 (talk) 19:47, June 6, 2012 (UTC)

Yes, but that's a VERY situational instant win. You would need a lot of cards plus those 2 in order to ensure that you get Destiny Leo to the field in the first place and then win. The least number of cards you would need is six - four of them being hieratics. It's hard to win in a single turn with this kind of combo.

Making the Overlay Units undetachable except by Destiny Leo's effect is not a good answer. Neither is making it unaffected by book of moon and interdimensional matter transporter. Doing things like that would actually keep the OPPONENT from stopping Destiny Leo, as the most likely way people would stop these effects is "this card cannot be targeted by card effects." Not only that, it would also prevent people from detaching the overlay unit from Destiny Leo by Overlay Eater and onto a monster like Thunder End Dragon, who could stop the combo by destroying Destiny Leo. No, the only way Destiny Leo would come out in the CG with a game-winning condition is something similar to my proposed solution; there are more ways to stop it, which is something the CG will like. Ease up there. It'll definitely get nerfed, but we won't know how. Maybe with an entirely different effect. (Compare Aero Shark's anime and real life effects, for instance.) --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 06:58, June 7, 2012 (UTC)

I realize that he could be nerfed. I'm only stating that in order to create the card with the instant win condition, this all that needs to be done. It's simple is all I'm saying. Aeron Solo wuz here (If you wanna talk) 11:24, June 7, 2012 (UTC)

MFW they have never changed a card in the anime that let you win when they made it into a real card.--Helix-king (talkcontribs) 14:03, June 7, 2012 (UTC)

Destiny leo may not even be printed for circulation. giving more op support for a brand new archetype isnt a common tradition. but then again what they have printed theyve nerfed quite a bit.

These are the basics

Requirements:3 level 8 "gimmick puppet" monsters

1) cannot be summoned except by xyz summon 2) Once per turn, you may detach an overlay material from this card. 3) if you remove an xyz material from this card with it's own effect, and this card carries no overlay material on it, you win the dual.

They are simple effects, and easy to stop with quite a few different creatures. hundreds of them...not just power alone would matter with something like this. and your both on the right track. it needs limited effects of some sorts.

I know what could happen but i dont want to comment on another opinion about his abilities for fear of that nerf coming to life.

Oh hey, it's actually made. With a fair nerfing, too. Now its instant win effect is harder to activate and easier to thwart, not to mention no shortcuts around it. --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 08:33, July 19, 2012 (UTC)
