Forum:Trap Reactor VS. Skilldrain

I had a Trap Reactor on the field and my opponent had a face down Skilldrain. I summon Black Salvo and he activates his Skilldrain. Does Trap Reactor's effect destroy skilldrain? And is my Black Salvo's effect negated? Oreos74

i believe it forms a chain skill drain with trap reactor:
  • skill drain is activated as chain link 1 in response to black salvo's summons
  • trap reactor activates as chain link 2 because skill drain didn't resolved yet (so,it can activate)
  • trap reactor resolves first, inflicting 800 damage and destroying skill drain
  • skill drain is destroyed and cannot resolve as chain link 1
  • black salvo is summoned siccesfully and with effect

correct me if im wrong :) Aguz89 23:20, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

is this correct? i would appreciate confirmation from one of the people here i recognize....

because you would think skill drain would negate the resolution of his effect to prevent itself from being destroyed. Trap reactor does not negate the card effects, it merely destroys it, so wouldn't skill drain negate the monster before it could resolve its effect? Kearowind 02:40, June 7, 2010 (UTC)

Aguz is correct.
Kearowind, "Skill Drain" is a Continuous Trap Card, so you only apply its effect if it's face-up on the field. If you remove it from the field, then you stop applying its effect from that point onward. It's similar to Chaining "Dust Tornado" to "Royal Decree", or Chaining "Mystical Space Typhoon" to "Imperial Order".

Actually, it's your turn so you have priority. Your situation will form a chain.

Chain Link 1: "When this card is Normal Summoned, you can Special Summon 1 Level 4 DARK Machine-Type monster from your Graveyard in face-up Defense Position." effect of Black Salvo.
Chain Link 2: Your opponent activates Skill Drain.
Chain Link 3: You activate the effect of Trap Reactor・Y FI.

Resolve the chain in reverse:

Chain Link 3: Skill Drain is destroyed and your opponent loses 800 LP.
Chain Link 2: Skill Drain, a Continuous Trap Cards, is destroyed and resolves without effect.
Chain Link 1: You then special summon 1 Level 4 DARK Machine-Type monster from your Graveyard in face-up Defense Position.--HHTurtle 03:25, June 7, 2010 (UTC)

i understand completely ...o.o oh yugioh you are so complicated sometimes....XD thank HHT Kearowind 03:58, June 7, 2010 (UTC)

Wow so that means I lost a duel which I shouldn't have lost. We both were confused on the rulings so skill drain didn't get destroyed. Ok thanks for clearing it up, i should have won...Oreos74
