Forum:Venom Concept Deck

ok, first of all, this is a concept deck, since I don't own a single venom card. So there's no limit on what I can add to this to make it better.

The main object of the deck is to afflict the opponent with Venom counters.

I afflict my opponent by destroying their monsters with Venom Swamp, or rendering their attack useless and turn them into more Vemon counter stockpiles with my Reptilianne monsters.

And I can also stockpile venom counters on my Reptilianne Monsters for some heavy Burn damage from Venom Burn.

Once everything is going my way, I can quickly finish off my opponent with Vennominon the King of Poisonous Snakes, Evil Dragon Ananta, Earthbound Immortal Ccarayhua, or pull an alternate win condition with Vennominaga the Deity of Poisonous Snakes

I choose to put Spirit Barrier in the deck because Reptilianne Naga, can serve as an excellent shield/stalling card to give me time to stock venom counters and disable my opponent at the same time, while not taking any loses to my lifepoints. (which is an issue with most venom decks). Unless you can convince me of a better choice, don't even bother telling me to drop Spirit Barrier.

This is meant to be a slow deck, making the opponent suffer as much as possible. The only quick drops in life points I want is with Venom Burn, or if I get a good opportunity to land some heavy beatdown damage early on.

So, are there any things I can do to make the deck stronger, more focused on the main strategy, or thin it down closer to 40 cards? Anyone? Thanks

I would definately drop some of the Continuous Spell/Trap cards. Spirit Barrier isn't much use, I would go with another Damage = Reptile, since it can grab Venomminon in an instant. Also, I recommend switching a Terraforming for the third Venom Swamp, and finding place for another Offerings to the Snake Deity, since it's just an amazing combo with Naga.--Akiza Izayoi 21:01, March 8, 2010 (UTC)

  • I would advise against slow as much as possible. Since 5ds everything has been going by at blazing speeds. This deck would probably be awesome if it went into the GX era, but if you don't get your full setup in the first few turns the likes of Stardust Dragon Assault Mode or Judgement Dragon will be dropped on you quite suddenly. Of course, if this is a deck for use against friends and not meant for actual tournament play then I say go for it with everything you got. Good Luck with it though. @Akiza, I already said I'm not dropping Spirit Barrier, and that the deck is supposed to be slow, I'm not looking to drop Vennominon out on the first few turns, and it eliminates the risk of taking too much damage, which is the downside of most venom decks, and particularly with the 0 ATK Repilianne monsters. I was thinking about changing terraforming into another Venom swamp too though, I'll try and find room for another offerings to the snake deity.

@Sabeta, yeah I don't expect to be winning many tournaments with this deck, though it would be nice if it could. I'm not looking for a slow set-up, hopefully I can set up the field quickly, but a slow paced duel, where I control the opponent at every turn whittling away their resistance, slowly sinking them deeper and deeper until they lose.

Any suggestions on what I can do to make that happen with this deck?

I still recommend against it... If you're that dead-set against removing it, then you might as well remove Damage = Reptile as well. And I really think you should add more Snake Deity's Command, since Heavy Storm is your biggest threat. All you have to do is reveal a card, to negate a possibly game-changing spell. I'd drop Solemn for it, or maybe Light of Intervention.--Akiza Izayoi 03:36, March 9, 2010 (UTC)

Well, it'd be interesting to do something different from regular venom decks and it'd certainly keep most of my lifepoints intact while I'm following through with my strategy.

I edited the decklist with your suggestions, added more Snake Deity's Command, swapped Terraforming with a 3rd Venom Swamp, swapped Damage = Reptile for another Spirit Barrier, and dropped Light of Intervention. (with Spirit Barrier I just have to ram my monsters into their defense/facedowns to flip them face up, and I won't take damage.)

It's a pity there's so many support cards I need, I don't have any room for utility spell and traps. Divine Wrath and other cards would sure be useful. 70.247.169.204 22:34, March 9, 2010 (UTC)

oops, sorry about that. Edited now, hopefully it's a bit clearer to read. 70.247.169.204 22:34, March 9, 2010 (UTC)
